It was known by 64.1% of the teachers that asthmatic children do not mind doing sports. Approximately one of the two teachers knew that the medication were not addictive. Conclusion: The knowledge level of the teachers was related to female gender and age. We think that an asthma education program is needed for Turkish teachers to increase their understanding about what asthma is, its impact and how to meet the needs of a child with asthma to achieve improved wellbeing and school attendance.Publication Comorbid conditions and social determinants of smoking in an adult population(Turkish Green Crescent Soc, 2019-12-01) Güçlü, Özge Aydın; Öztürk, Nilufer Aylin Acet; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; ACET ÖZTÜRK, NİLÜFER AYLİN; DEMİRDÖĞEN, EZGİ; Demirdöğen, Ezgi; Uzaslan, Esra; UZASLAN, AYŞE ESRA; Karadağ, Mehmet; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0003-1005-3205; 0000-0002-6375-1472; 0000-0001-7099-9647; 0000-0002-7400-9089; 0000-0002-9027-1132; Z-1424-2019; AAG-8744-2021; JPK-7012-2023; AAH-9812-2021Tobacco smoking is a significant risk factor for a variety of chronic disorders, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and other forms of malignancies. In this study, we investigated the comorbid medical conditions and sociodemographic features that contribute to disparities in tobacco smoking prevalence in the adult population. We induded volunteers who participated in events for the "World COPD day" in 4 consecutive years (i.e., 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017) held in Bursa, Turkey. Sociodemographic features, smoking characteristics, and comorbidities were recorded. A total of 747 volunteers who were 47.1 +/- 14.5 [16-84] years of age and smoked 24.1 +/- 20.91 pack-years were included. The study population consisted of 405 (54.2%) males, 36.3% of which were current smokers, 23.6% exsmokers, and 40.2% nonsmokers. Moreover, 15.7% of participants with asthma were nonsmokers and 9.4% ever-smoker (p=0.011), while 2% of participants with coronary artery disease (CAD) were nonsmoker and 6.7% were ever-smoker (p=0.003). Current smoker participants exhibited more symptoms such as cough. sputum, and wheezing (p<0.001, in both cases). In this study, we found that the factors associated with smoking in the general population are male gender and higher educational level.Publication Response to "Hypercapnic respiratory failure with insufficient response to fixed- level PS-NIV: Is AVAPS the end solution?"(Turkish Assoc Tuberculosis & Thorax, 2023-01-01) Öztürk, Nilüfer Aylin Acet; Güçlü, Özge Aydın; Demirdoğen, Ezgi; Dilektaşlı, Aslı Görek; Maharramov, Shahriyar; Coşkun, Funda; Uzaslan, Esra; Ursavaş, Ahmet; Karadağ, Mehmet; ACET ÖZTÜRK, NİLÜFER AYLİN; AYDIN GÜÇLÜ, ÖZGE; DEMİRDÖĞEN, EZGİ; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; Maharramov, Shahriyar; COŞKUN, NECMİYE FUNDA; URSAVAŞ, AHMET; UZASLAN, AYŞE ESRA; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-6375-1472; 0000-0003-1005-3205; 0000-0002-7400-9089; 0000-0001-7099-9647; 0000-0003-3604-8826; 0000-0002-9027-1132; Z-1424-2019; AAG-9930-2019; AAH-9812-2021; DTT-7416-2022; DDT-7334-2022; AAD-1271-2019; CDI-1977-2022; AAG-8744-2021Publication Association between burnout, anxiety and insomnia in healthcare workers: A cross-sectional study burnout, anxiety and insomnia in healthcare workers(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis, 2021-01-23) Aydin Guclu, Ozge; Akkoyunlu, Muhammed Emin; Acican, Turan; Sertogullarindan, Bunyamin; Kirbas, Gokhan; Selimoglu Sen, Hatice; Lakadamyali, Huseyin; Intepe, Yavuz Selim; Arslan, Sertac; Firat Gursoy, Sibel; Kaya, Akin; Karadağ, Mehmet; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi.; 0000-0003-1005-3205; 0000-0002-9027-1132; 0000-0002-2866-6686; 0000-0002-5697-5291; JSK-7543-2023; AAP-7682-2020; AAG-8744-2021; AAG-9930-2019; D-5756-2018; W-1764-2017All healthcare workers (HCWs) encounter stress during in their working lives, and are constantly exposed to adverse conditions. The present study evaluates the relationship between burnout syndrome, anxiety levels and insomnia severity among healthcare workers, who mostly work in shifts. The Maslach Burnout Inventory, the Insomnia Severity Index and the Beck Anxiety Inventory were used to measure burnout, insomnia severity and anxiety status, respectively. This cross sectional study included a total of 1,011 HCWs and 679 (67.2%) of the study respondents were women. The respondents were aged 20-72, with a mean age of 35.67 +/- 8.61 years. Fifty-eight percent (n = 589) of the participants were rotating shift workers. Working on-call led to a significant difference in all burnout parameters (for each, <0.001). Age and on-call duty were seen to lead to a significant difference in the severity of insomnia (p = 0.028, p < 0.001, respectively). The total ISI score was found to be statistically significant positively correlated with the MBI subscales and the total BAI score (for each, <0.001). An increased awareness of the impact of sleep deprivation, burnout and anxiety among HCWs and meaningful interventions promoting change within the healthcare system are needed.Publication An unusual way of tracheal stoma cleaning could end up with foreign body aspiration in a laryngectomized patient(Turkish Assoc Tuberculosis & Thorax, 2005-01-01) UZASLAN, AYŞE ESRA; URSAVAŞ, AHMET; Ursavaş, Ahmet; Ediger, Dane; EDİGER, DANE; Karadağ, Mehmet; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-2954-4293; 0000-0002-9027-1132; AAI-1004-2021; AAI-3169-2021; AAG-8744-2021; AAE-9142-2019We report a case of a laryngectomized patient who accidentally aspirated a wooden stick through his tracheal stoma in highly unusual circumstances. He was in a habit of cleaning secretions of upper airway with a wooden stick covered with cotton on the tip soaked in olive oil, via tracheostomy. After applying topical aerolized lidocaine spray through the tracheostomy stoma a flexible video-brochoscopy was performed and a tree twig over 11 cm in length was removed. The patient's symptoms were resolved by a bronchoscopy. With experience and availability of accessories, the removal of the foreign body using flexible bronchoscope under local anesthesia can be performed safely and successfully. This case suggests that the physicians and otolaryngologists should educate their laryngectomized patients about stomal care and discuss any potential life-threatening situation they might encounter.Publication Coexistence of sarcoidosis and sjogren's syndrome: A case-report(Amer, 2015-10-01) Dilektaşlı, Aslı Görek; Çetinoğlu, Ezgi Demirdoğen; Durmuş, Eda; Uzaslan, Esra; Ege, Ercüment; Karadağ, Mehmet; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; Çetinoğlu, Ezgi Demirdoğen; Durmuş, Eda; UZASLAN, AYŞE ESRA; Ege, Ercüment; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0001-7099-9647; 0000-0002-7400-9089; 0000-0002-9027-1132; AAG-8744-2021; JPK-7012-2023; DTT-7416-2022; ETU-0442-2022; CDI-1977-2022; CPF-5844-2022Publication Nutritional status in non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis(European Respiratory Soc Journals Ltd, 2023-09-09) Topçu, Dilara Ömer; Dilektaşlı, Aslı Görek; Uzaslan, Esra Kunt; Karadağ, Mehmet; ÖMER TOPÇU, DİLARA; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; Uzaslan, Esra Kunt; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0001-7099-9647; 0000-0002-9027-1132; AAG-8744-2021; EAX-3214-2022; DTT-7416-2022; JXG-0828-2024Publication Development and validation of a simple risk scoring system for a COVİD-19 diagnostic prediction model(Tüberküloz ve Toraks, 2023-01-01) Güçlü, Özge Aydın; Ursavaş, Ahmet; Ocakoğlu, Gokhan; Demirdogen, Ezgi; Öztürk, Nilufer Aylin Acet; Topçu, Dilara Ömer; Terzi, Orkun Eray; Onal, Uğur; Dilektaşlı, Aslı Görek; Sağlık, İmran; Coşkun, Funda; Ediger, Dane; Uzaslan, Esra; AkalIn, Halis; Karadağ, Mehmet; AYDIN GÜÇLÜ, ÖZGE; URSAVAŞ, AHMET; OCAKOĞLU, GÖKHAN; DEMİRDÖĞEN, EZGİ; ACET ÖZTÜRK, NİLÜFER AYLİN; ÖMER TOPÇU, DİLARA; TERZİ, ORKUN ERAY; ÖNAL, UĞUR; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; SAĞLIK, İMRAN; COŞKUN, NECMİYE FUNDA; EDİGER, DANE; UZASLAN, AYŞE ESRA; AkalIn, Halis; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Biyoistatistik Anabilim Dalı; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Enfeksiyon Hastalıkları ve Klinik Mikrobiyoloji Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0003-1005-3205; 0000-0002-1114-6051; 0000-0002-7400-9089; 0000-0002-6375-1472; 0000-0001-7099-9647; 0000-0002-2954-4293; 0000-0001-7530-1279; 0000-0002-9027-1132; AAH-5180-2021; A-4970-2019; AAG-8744-2021; AAI-3169-2021; JCO-3678-2023; JPK-7012-2023Introduction: In a resource-constrained situation, a clinical risk stratification system can assist in identifying individuals who are at higher risk and should be tested for COVID-19. This study aims to find a predictive scoring model to estimate the COVID-19 diagnosis.Materials and Methods: Patients who applied to the emergency pandemic clinic between April 2020 and March 2021 were enrolled in this retrospective study. At admission, demographic characteristics, symptoms, comorbid diseases, chest computed tomography (CT), and laboratory findings were all recorded. Development and validation datasets were created. The scoring system was performed using the coefficients of the odds ratios obtained from the multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results: Among 1187 patients admitted to the hospital, the median age was 58 years old (22-96), and 52.7% were male. In a multivariable analysis, typical radiological findings (OR= 8.47, CI= 5.48-13.10, p< 0.001) and dyspnea (OR= 2.85, CI= 1.71-4.74, p< 0.001) were found to be the two important risk factors for COVID-19 diagnosis, followed by myalgia (OR= 1.80, CI= 1.082.99, p= 0.023), cough (OR= 1.65, CI= 1.16-2.26, p= 0.006) and fatigue symptoms (OR= 1.57, CI= 1.06-2.30, p= 0.023). In our scoring system, dyspnea was scored as 2 points, cough as 1 point, fatigue as 1 point, myalgia as 1 point, and typical radiological findings were scored as 5 points. This scoring system had a sensitivity of 71% and a specificity of 76.3% for a cut-off value of >2, with a total score of 10 (p< 0.001).Conclusion: The predictive scoring system could accurately predict the diagnosis of COVID-19 infection, which gave clinicians a theoretical basis for devising immediate treatment options. Considering the prevalence, incidence, and outcomes of IPF, it is important to ensure the availability and validity of biomarkers that can be used in determining the diagnosis and prognosis. In this study, we aimed to assess the relationship between serum periostin levels, pulmonary function tests, 6-minute walking test (6MWT) and quality of life in IPF patients.Material and methods: Our study was carried out with 40 IPF patients who were followed at Uludag University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pulmonary Medicine. Spirometer and carbon monoxide diffusion test (DLCO) for respiratory functions, 6MWT and periostin level measurement were performed on the patients, and results were recorded. Results: A total of 31 of patients were males and nine were females. The diagnosis of IPF was made according to the guidelines of ATS / ERS / JRS / ALAT with 25 (62.5%) patients by radiologically and 15 (37.5%) patients with histopathological and radiological features. The mean periostin level was 32.9 +/- 37.57 ng/ml. No significant correlation was found between St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) score, FVC% predicted, DLCO adj% predicted values, 6MWT distance and periostin level which were measured simultaneously. A negative correlation was found between SGRQ score and DLCO adj% predicted value, 6MWT distance. Conclusion: It has been shown that there is no correlation between periostin levels and the results of the pulmonary function tests, when measured and performed at the same time. No studies are evaluating the relationship between 6MWT and SGRQ scores and periostin levels. In our study, serum periostin level, pulmonary function test results, 6MWT and SGRQ scores were not significantly correlated.Publication Evaluation of fibrinogen levels in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome(Wiley, 2013-11-01) Çetinoğlu, Ezgi Demirdoğen; Ursavaş, Ahmet; Karadağ, Mehmet; Coşkun, Funda; Ediger, Dane; Uzaslan, Esra; Ege, Ercüment; Gözü, Oktay; Çetinoğlu, Ezgi Demirdoğen; URSAVAŞ, AHMET; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; COŞKUN, NECMİYE FUNDA; EDİGER, DANE; UZASLAN, AYŞE ESRA; Ege, Ercüment; Gözü, Oktay; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-7400-9089; 0000-0002-9027-1132; 0000-0003-3604-8826; 0000-0002-2954-4293; AAI-3169-2021; AAD-1271-2019; AAG-8744-2021; JPK-7012-2023; AAE-9142-2019; AAH-9812-2021; CDI-1977-2022; CPF-5844-2022; JLC-5863-2023
