Most of these mosaics consist of mythological designs. Among these, in addition to the personifications of gods and goddesses, some allegorical representations came to the fore. Allegory can simply be thought of as a concretization or visualization of a concept or idea for those to be understood better. In the reflection of the Greco-Roman tradition on the mosaics, we can observe that especially moral and personal values are brought to the foreground. From this point of view, designs that symbolize comfort and luxury, such as Tryphe and Bios, are quite different and varied. The subject of the study is the Tryphe and Bios Mosaic, which represents one of these examples and is exhibited at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada today. The mosaic, which is thought to be of Syrian Emesa origin and dated to approximately AD 350-400, will be defined in detail and will be evaluated iconographically and iconologically.Publication A group of edessa oriented mosaic panels exhibited in royal ontario museum(Uludag Univ, Mosaic Res Ctr, 2018-01-01) Şahin, Derya; ŞAHİN, DERYA; Ünsal, Nur Deniz; ÜNSAL, NUR DENİZ; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi/Arkeoloji Bölümü.; E-1124-2019; E-1133-2019The theme of this article is the three mosaic pavements and we think that they are oriented from Edessa qanhurfa) which are exhibited in Toronto Royal Ontario Museum today. The last panel reviewed in the article is the Lion Figure Mosaic. The basic characteristics of the Lion figure reflect the characteristics of Edessa local mosaic workshop. Two mosaic pavements, Young Girl Mosaic and Lion Mosaic, are dated to the first quarter of the 3rd century AD and Artemis Mosaic is dated to the beginning of the 6th century and is localized to Edessa with its style and technique characteristics and they are made in opus tessellatum technique.
