Considering the prevalence, incidence, and outcomes of IPF, it is important to ensure the availability and validity of biomarkers that can be used in determining the diagnosis and prognosis. In this study, we aimed to assess the relationship between serum periostin levels, pulmonary function tests, 6-minute walking test (6MWT) and quality of life in IPF patients.Material and methods: Our study was carried out with 40 IPF patients who were followed at Uludag University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pulmonary Medicine. Spirometer and carbon monoxide diffusion test (DLCO) for respiratory functions, 6MWT and periostin level measurement were performed on the patients, and results were recorded. Results: A total of 31 of patients were males and nine were females. The diagnosis of IPF was made according to the guidelines of ATS / ERS / JRS / ALAT with 25 (62.5%) patients by radiologically and 15 (37.5%) patients with histopathological and radiological features. The mean periostin level was 32.9 +/- 37.57 ng/ml. No significant correlation was found between St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) score, FVC% predicted, DLCO adj% predicted values, 6MWT distance and periostin level which were measured simultaneously. A negative correlation was found between SGRQ score and DLCO adj% predicted value, 6MWT distance. Conclusion: It has been shown that there is no correlation between periostin levels and the results of the pulmonary function tests, when measured and performed at the same time. No studies are evaluating the relationship between 6MWT and SGRQ scores and periostin levels. In our study, serum periostin level, pulmonary function test results, 6MWT and SGRQ scores were not significantly correlated.Publication Investigation of infectious droplet dispersion in a hospital examination room cooled by split-type air conditioner(Springer, 2024-05-08) Yüce, Bahadir Erman; Kalay, Onur Can; Karpat, Fatih; Alemdar, Adem; Temel, Şehime Gülsün; Dilektaşlı, Aslı Görek; Başkan, Emel Bülbül; Özakın, Cüneyt; Coşkun, Burhan; YÜCE, BAHADIR ERMAN; Kalay, Onur Can; KARPAT, FATİH; ALEMDAR, ADEM; TEMEL, ŞEHİME GÜLSÜN; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; BÜLBÜL BAŞKAN, EMEL; ÖZAKIN, CÜNEYT; COŞKUN, BURHAN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Yenişehir İbrahim Orhan Meslek Yüksekokulu/İklimlendirme ve Soğutma Teknolojisi Bölümü.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Tıbbi Genetik Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Histoloji ve Embriyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Dermatoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Enfeksiyon Hastalıkları ve Mikrobiyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Üroloji Anabilim Dalı.The novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak has spread worldwide, and the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global pandemic in March 2020. The transmission mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 in indoor environments has begun to be investigated in all aspects. In this regard, many numerical studies on social distancing and the protection of surgical masks against infection risk have neglected the evaporation of the particles. Meanwhile, a 1.83 m (6 feet) social distancing rule has been recommended to reduce the infection risk. However, it should be noted that most of the studies were conducted in static air conditions. Air movement in indoor environments is chaotic, and it is not easy to track all droplets in a ventilated room experimentally. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) enables the tracking of all particles in a ventilated environment. This study numerically investigated the airborne transmission of infectious droplets in a hospital examination room cooled by a split-type air conditioner with the CFD method. Different inlet velocities (1, 2, 3 m/s) were considered and investigated separately. Besides, the hospital examination room is a model of one of the Bursa Uludag University Hospital examination rooms. The patient, doctor, and some furniture are modeled in the room. Particle diameters considered ranged from 2 to 2000 mu m. The evaporation of the droplets is not neglected, and the predictions of particle tracks are shown. As a result, locations with a high infection risk were identified, and the findings that could guide the design/redesign of the hospital examination rooms were evaluated.Publication Il-21: A potential biomarker for diagnosis and predicting prognosis in covid-19 patients(European Respiratory Society Journals, 2021-09-05) Öztürk, Nilüfer Aylin Acet; Ursavaş, Ahmet; Dilektaşlı, Aslı Görek; Demirdöğen, Ezgi; Coşkun, Funda; Ediger, Dane; Uzaslan, Esra; Yöyen-Ermiş, Diğdem; Karaca, Mert; Terzi, Orkun; Bayram, Merve; Ömer, Dilara; Yiğitliler, Büşra; Yurttaş, Ahmet; Maharramov, Shahriyar; Çelik, Gamze; Oral, Barbaros; Karadağ, Mehmet; ACET ÖZTÜRK, NİLÜFER AYLİN; URSAVAŞ, AHMET; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; DEMİRDÖĞEN, EZGİ; COŞKUN, NECMİYE FUNDA; EDİGER, DANE; UZASLAN, AYŞE ESRA; YÖYEN ERMİŞ, DİĞDEM; KARACA, MERT; TERZİ, ORKUN ERAY; BAYRAM, MERVE; ÖMER TOPÇU, DİLARA; YURTTAŞ, AHMET; ORAL, HALUK BARBAROS; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; MAHARRAMOV, SHAHRİYAR; YAZICI, GAMZE; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi.; 0000-0002-6375-1472; 0000-0002-7400-9089; 0000-0003-3604-8826; 0000-0002-2954-4293; 0000-0001-5871-8769; 0000-0002-9027-1132; AAG-8744-2021; JPK-7012-2023; AAH-3888-2021; AAE-9142-2019; AAI-3169-2021; AAD-1271-2019Publication The effects of substance use disorder on respiratory function parameters and functional capacity in İstanbul(European Respiratory Soc Journals, 2020-09-07) Mustafaoğlu, Rüstem; Demir, Rengin; Zirek, Emrah; Birinci, Tansu; Mutlu, Ebru Kaya; Evren, Cüneyt; Özdinçler, Arzu Razak; Dilektasli, Ashi Gorek; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi.; EWI-5424-2022Publication Is serum iron responsive protein-2 level associated with pulmonary functions and frequent exacerbator phenotype in copd?(Turkish Assoc Tuberculosis & Thorax, 2020-01-01) Öztürk, Nilufer Aylin Acet; ACET ÖZTÜRK, NİLÜFER AYLİN; Dilektaşlı, Aslı Görek; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; Demirdoğen, Ezgi; DEMİRDÖĞEN, EZGİ; Coşkun, Funda; COŞKUN, NECMİYE FUNDA; Ursavas, Ahmet; URSAVAŞ, AHMET; Karadağ, Mehmet; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Uzaslan, Esra Kunt; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-6375-1472; 0000-0001-7099-9647; 0000-0002-7400-9089; 0000-0003-3604-8826; 0000-0002-9027-1132; JPK-7012-2023; Z-1424-2019; AAI-3169-2021; AAD-1271-2019; AAH-9812-2021; AAI-1004-2021; AAG-8744-2021Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbations contribute to the overall severity in individual patients because they are associated with airway inflammation, pulmonary function loss, decreased quality of life and increased mortality. Although, identifying frequent exacerbator patients is important due to severe outcomes associated with frequent exacerbator phenotype in COPD patients there is no single biomarker which can differentiate this phenotype. Iron responding protein-2 (IRP2) is the protein product of IREB2 gene, which is a COPD susceptibility gene that regulates cellular iron homeostasis and has a key role in hypoxic conditions. Previous research indicates that IREB2 expression in lung tissue is associated with spirometric measurements and emphysema in COPD. In this study, our aim was to investigate whether serum IRP2 levels were associated with frequent exacerbator phenotype, to evaluate whether IRP2 levels in serum are associated with pulmonary functions and selected systemic inflammation biomarkers.Materials and Methods: Designed as a single tertiary care center based, cross-sectional study, included high risk (GOLD C, D) COPD patients who admitted to outpatient clinic consecutively between December 2015 and July 2016.Results: The study included 80 COPD patients. Serum IRP2 levels were negatively correlated with FEV ml (r= -0.25, p= 0.02) and body weight (r= -0.35, p= 0.002) but not with markers of systemic inflammation. COPD patients with at least one exacerbation history in the last year tended to have higher 1RP2 levels than patients without any exacerbation (12.3 (IQR 25-75: 10.417.1) vs 10.5 (1QR 25-75: 8.8-18.5), p= 0.061.Conclusion: Serum IRP2 level is significantly correlated with FEV1 mL but not with FEV1 predicted and cannot be used to differentiate frequent exacer bator patients. Although IREB2 gene expressions in lung tissue and bronchoalveolar lavage results have significant associations with emphysema and FEV1/FVC, FEV1 %predicted in COPD patients, our results suggests serum IRP2 level is not as promising.Publication Frailty: An indicator for poor outcomes among in-hospital pulmonology patients(European Respiratory Soc Journals, 2021-09-05) Öztürk, Nilüfer Aylin Acet; Dilektaşlı, Aslı Görek; Güçlü, Özge Aydın; Ursavaş, Ahmet; Demirdoğen, Ezgi; Coşkun, Funda; Uzaslan, Esra; Karadağ, Mehmet; ACET ÖZTÜRK, NİLÜFER AYLİN; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; AYDIN GÜÇLÜ, ÖZGE; URSAVAŞ, AHMET; DEMİRDÖĞEN, EZGİ; COŞKUN, NECMİYE FUNDA; UZASLAN, AYŞE ESRA; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-6375-1472; 0000-0003-1005-3205; 0000-0002-7400-9089; 0000-0003-3604-8826; 0000-0002-9027-1132; AAI-3169-2021; JPK-7012-2023; AAG-8744-2021; AAD-1271-2019; Z-1424-2019; CNP-1063-2022; AAG-9930-2019; CDI-1977-2022Publication The combination of scoring systems and lactate for predicting short-term mortality in geriatric patients with dyspnea(Springer, 2023-06-19) Ardıç, Anıl; Köksal, Özlem; Durak, Vahide Aslıhan; Dilektaşlı, Aslı Görek; Özkaya, Güven; KÖKSAL, ÖZLEM; DURAK, VAHİDE ASLIHAN; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; ÖZKAYA, GÜVEN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Acil Tıp Anabilim Dalı; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Biyoistatistik Anabilim Dalı; 0000-0003-0836-7862; 0000-0003-0297-846X; 0000-0003-2271-5659; AAK-8332-2020; AAE-9483-2021; CNP-1063-2022; IVU-2672-2023BackgroundDyspnea is one of the most common causes for admission to the emergency department. Lactate (L), which can be used as a prognostic marker, was first studied by Broder and Weil and it was shown that a level > 4 mmol/l is associated with a poor prognosis. There are also scoring systems to assess the severity of illness of patients presenting to the emergency department such as the National Early Warning Score (NEWS), Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS), Rapid Emergency Medicine Score (REMS) and VitalPAC Early Warning Score (ViEWS).ObjectivesIn this study, we aimed to investigate the combination of risk scoring systems and lactate in predicting short-term mortality in patients over 65 years of age with the complaint of nontraumatic dyspnea.Materials and methodsThe population of the study consisted of adult patients aged 65 and over who presented to Bursa Uludag University Medical Faculty Emergency Department with dyspnea. Admission NEWS, MEWS, REMS, ViEWS scores and their combined forms with added lactate levels at first admission, and 7-, 14-, and 28-day survival were recorded.ResultsWe found that the modified composite scores with lactate value, and the NEWS, MEWS, REMS, and ViEWS scores could predict the 28-day mortality. Ranking the scores and lactate value predicting 28-day mortality according to the area under the curve (AUC) value revealed that the 28-day mortality was best predicted by the NEWS + lactate with 64.97% sensitivity and 77.53% specificity (p < 0.001). We have shown that increasing lactate levels, NEWS, MEWS, REMS, ViEWS scores and their modified composite scores with lactate above suggested thresholds are independent risk factors for increased mortality in multivariable Cox regression analysis.ConclusionsIn cases with dyspnea, lactate value, NEWS, MEWS, REMS, ViEWS, NEWS-L MEWS-L, REMS-L, and ViEWS-L scores can be used to predict early mortality. Risk scores modified with lactate value were found to be more successful in predicting 28-day mortality.Publication Understanding university students' smoking behaviors towards tobacco-free campus policy(Turkish Assoc Tuberculosis & Thorax, 2021-01-01) Karadag, Mehmet; Aydin Güçlü, Ozge; Gorek Dilektaşlı, Aslı; Coskun, Funda; Uzaslan, Esra; Gorek Dilektasli, Asli; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; Aydin Guclu, Ozge; AYDIN GÜÇLÜ, ÖZGE; Karadag, Mehmet; KARADAĞ, MEHMET; Coskun, Funda; COŞKUN, NECMİYE FUNDA; Uzaslan, Esra; UZASLAN, AYŞE ESRA; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi.; 0000-0002-9027-1132; 0000-0003-1005-3205; 0000-0001-7099-9647; 0000-0003-3604-8826; AAG-8744-2021; AAG-9930-2019; AAD-1271-2019Introduction: Tobacco-free college campuses refer to colleges and universities that have implemented policies prohibiting the use of tobacco products at all indoor and outdoor campus locations. We aimed to evaluate university students' smoking behaviors and their attitudes towards "Tobacco-Free Campus Policy".Materials and Methods: A total of 10,383 university students were included in this cross-sectional study. The questionnaire was sent via web-based student information system. Demographical variables, the frequency of tobacco use, the addiction levels of the smoker students, and their perspective on the Tobacco-Free Campus Policy were evaluated. Results: The study population consisted of 5461 (52.6%) males and their mean age was 22.1 +/- 3.9 years. Among the students, 3992 (38.4%) were current smokers and the age of first smoking was 16.5 +/- 2.78 years. According to FTND scores, 15.1% of participants have high dependence, and 7.5% of them have very high dependence. There was a significant difference among participants who finds unacceptable "Tobacco-Free Campus Policy" in terms of gender (70.7% males vs. 29.3% females, p< 0.001) and smoking habit (7% never smoker, 4.1% ex-smoker, 88.9% current smoker, p< 0.001).Conclusion: The Tobacco-Free Campus Policy is important to fight against the tobacco industry in order to protect the right to health of all tobacco users and those who do not use it and should be considered as a goal to be achieved in order to live in a healthy environment.Publication Impact of the revised EORTC/MSGERC 2020 criteria upon prognosis in patients with hematologic malignancies undergoing bronchoscopy(European Respiratory Soc Journals, 2021-09-05) Topcu, Dilara Omer; Acer, Kubra Vurat; Guclu, Ozge Aydin; Pinar, Ibrahim Ethem; Demirdogen, Ezgi; Dilektasli, Asli Gorek; Kazak, Esra; Ozkocaman, Vildan; Ursavas, Ahmet; Akalin, Halis; Ozkalemtas, Fahir; Ener, Beyza; Ali, Ridvan; Ozturk, Nilufer Aylin Acet; ACET ÖZTÜRK, NİLÜFER AYLİN; ÖMER TOPÇU, DİLARA; VURAT ACAR, KÜBRA; AYDIN GÜÇLÜ, ÖZGE; PINAR, İBRAHİM ETHEM; DEMİRDÖĞEN, EZGİ; GÖREK DİLEKTAŞLI, ASLI; KAZAK, ESRA; ÖZKOCAMAN, VİLDAN; URSAVAŞ, AHMET; AKALIN, EMİN HALİS; Ozkalemtas, Fahir; ENER, BEYZA; ALİ, RIDVAN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Göğüs Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/İç Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Hematoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Enfeksiyon Hastalıkları ve Klinik Mikrobiyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Tıbbi Mikrobiyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-6375-1472; 0000-0003-1005-3205; 0000-0002-7400-9089; 0000-0001-7530-1279; 0000-0002-6375-1472; 0000-0003-1005-3205; 0000-0002-4803-8206; JGM-6601-2023; KHE-5423-2024; AAU-8952-2020; JPK-7012-2023; JWP-2738-2024; AAI-3169-2021; Z-1424-2019; JIF-7772-2023; CBS-8892-2022; AAG-9930-2019; CNP-1063-2022; AAG-8459-2021; FQG-8981-2022; FQJ-3657-2022; AAG-8523-2021; GXD-8209-2022
