Publication Free vibration analysis of elastically restrained cantilever timoshenko beam with attachments(Pamukkale Üniversitesi, 2023-01-01) Pala, Yaşar; Kahya, Çağlar; PALA, YAŞAR; KAHYA, ÇAĞLAR; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0003-0358-1958; 0000-0002-0722-7094; AAH-3919-2021; FPX-5866-2022This paper investigates the lateral vibration of a cantilever Timoshenko beam with attachments. It is assumed that the beam carries a mass attached to the free end with a linear spring and there exists a rotational spring at the left end. Depending upon these assumptions, mode shapes and natural frequencies are obtained in terms of non -dimensional parameters which describe the effects of additional mass, linear spring and rotational spring. The results are tabulated, and the comparison of Timoshenko and Euler-Bernoulli beam approaches are carried out for some parameters. Results reveal that natural frequencies decrease while the values of end mass increase. Large values of the rotational spring constant cause high natural frequencies.Publication Free vibration analysis of mixed supported beam(Pamukkale Üniversitesi, 2020-01-01) Pala, Yaşar; Beyçimen, Semih; PALA, YAŞAR; BEYÇİMEN, SEMİH; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-0358-1958; 0000-0002-0213-3718; FPX-5866-2022; JRG-3291-2023In this study, the free vibration of a Euler-Bernoulli beam with rotating and transitional springs at both ends has been investigated. According to different spring coefficients, frequency tables and mode shapes have been created for both symmetric and non-symmetric cases. By changing spring constants, many conditions have been examined and interpreted. It has been found that the effect of spring constants on frequencies is extremely low at high frequencies and the difference between two frequencies approaches to a constant value.Publication An investigation of the breaking dynamics of a vehicle which carries liquid cargo(Pamukkale Univ, 2006-01-01) Reis, Murat; REİS, MURAT; Pala, Yaşar; PALA, YAŞAR; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0001-5853-488X; AAI-1786-2019In this study, the effects of fluid motion in external fuel tanks on the dynamics of breaking system are investigated. The unconstrained motion of fluid also called sloshing causes high dynamic loads especially in highly accelerated motion of massive bodies. These dynamic loads affect the dynamic behavior of truck, and, inversely, the reaction of truck affects the fluid motion. The interaction between fluid and truck affects the whole system's dynamics. In this study, the breaking performance of truck carrying fluid cargo at various ratios of plenitude is investigated using simulation techniques via Msc. Dytran and the swinging pendulum method. The kinetic coefficient of friction is assumed to be constant during the motion. The effect of fluid motion on the system's dynamic has been compared for various plenitude ratios, and the efficiency of pendulum method is compared. The feasibility of pendulum method is also discussed. As a result of comparison of numerical simulations, it has been concluded that the effect of fluid motion on the truck's breakage performance in the case of % 50 plentitude ratio is higher than that of the ratios of plenitude greater than % 50. On the other hand, it has been observed that the pendulum method is useful for the plenitude ratios less than % 50 and for accelerations of a <= (1/2)g.Publication Non-linear elastic waves in a finite bar made of a material having non-linear stress-strain relation(Pamukkale Univ, 2006-01-01) Pala, Yaşar; PALA, YAŞAR; Bademci, Özkan; Karadere, Gültekin; KARADERE, GÜLTEKİN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü.; AAI-8193-2021This study is devoted to the non-linear elastic wave motion in a finite bar made of a material obeying non-linear stress-strain relation. Non-linear governing partial differential equation is separated into two non-linear ordinary differential equations using a new method for the separation. Analytical solution satisfying boundary and initial conditions are constructed from the proper solutions of equations. Stresses, wave velocities and displacements in the rod are found for arbitrary conditions. Two methods are developed. While the first method brings a limitation on the solution, the second one removes this problem by selecting more practically logical conditions. The present method is also applicable to elastic-plastic wave motion in rods of engineering materials. On the contrary to Karman-Donnel elasto-plastic wave theory developed for semi infinite bars subjected to initial velocity condition only, the present method proves to be useful for rods of finite lengths subjected to both initial and boundary conditions.Publication Heat distribution in a rectangular plate heated by a moving heat source(Pamukkale Üniversitesi, 2011-01-01) Pala, Yaşar; Çavuş, Mehmet; PALA, YAŞAR; Çavuş, Mehmet; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Mimarlık Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü; FPX-5866-2022; JIW-2354-2023In this study, temperature distribution in a rectangular plate due to a moving heat source with a constant velocity is investigated and analytical expressions for the temperature are obtained. First, temperature distribution is obtained for a heat source moving with a constant speed at a constant direction. Second, how the present method can be modified for the process in different directions is expressed. Third, temperature distribution for the circular processing is formulated and solved. Heat source is defined by means of a Dirac Delta function. Results are exemplified for various values of the parameters. In order to provide the ease of use a GUI software in Matlab is also developed.Publication Damped vibration analysis of cracked Timoshenko beams with restrained end conditions(Springer, 2020-08-24) Pala, Yaşar; Beyçimen, Semih; Kahya, Çağlar; PALA, YAŞAR; BEYÇİMEN, SEMİH; KAHYA, ÇAĞLAR; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0002-0213-3718; FPX-5866-2022; CXU-5149-2022; DVC-6443-2022Damped vibration of a cracked Timoshenko beam with ends supported with damper, linear and rotational springs is investigated. Frequencies in complex forms have been obtained for both cracked Euler-Bernoulli and Timoshenko beams. Depending upon the crack-depth and crack-location, frequencies have been tabulated in each case. The results have also been compared in terms of the ratio of the beam depth to the beam length. Modal shapes for various conditions have also been plotted.Publication A method based on riccati equation for the vibration analysis of rods with variable cross-sections(World Scientific Publ Co Pte Ltd, 2022-09-15) PALA, YAŞAR; Kahya, Çağlar; KAHYA, ÇAĞLAR; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü.; AAH-3919-2021In this study, the longitudinal vibration of rods with variable cross-sections is studied. For the analytical solution of the problem, a new analytical method based on a recently developed method on the Riccati differential equation is utilized. The governing equation is reduced to Hill's type second-order ordinary differential equation. The transformed equations can readily be solved analytically for various cases according to the method. Seven cases have been considered, and the frequency equations for each case have been obtained. According to the method developed, the problem is solved in the simplest way. By using the present method, the reader can readily decide whether the problem is solved analytically or numerically. The present method can solve the problem of longitudinal vibration of rods having cross-sections of arbitrary shape. Finally, the method is also applied to the longitudinal vibration of stepped rods. Mode shapes are plotted for special values.
