Publication Forming evolution of titanium grade2 sheets(Walter De Gruyter Gmbh, 2022-01-27) Tekin, Merve; ERTAN, RUKİYE; TEKİN, MERVE; Ertan, Rukiye; GÜLER ÖZGÜL, HANDE; Özgül, Hande Güler; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Otomotiv Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-2831-3175; KIH-2391-2024; GWU-9651-2022; AAG-8571-2021Titanium and its alloys take attention, especially in aerospace, automotive, and biomedical applications because of their strength, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility. Titanium components, in general, are produced by sheet metal forming. However, the springback effect is a critical problem in the forming process due to difficult formability of titanium sheets. In the present study, the hot forming process was applied to sheets to investigate the effect of deformation temperature on microstructure, mechanical properties, and springback behavior of commercially pure grade 2 titanium sheets. The springback angles were measured at the CAD model after the sheets were scanned by the 3D scanner. The tensile test, hardness measurements, and microstructural analysis were examined by using specimens that were cut from the sidewall and the bottom of the deformed sheet as U-profile. The results reveal that the microstructure is substantially changed, and the springback is reduced with increasing temperature; thus, optimum results were obtained compared to the data obtained at room temperature.Publication Research into the effect of the restoration process on the mechanical properties(Pamukkale Üniversitesi, 2015-01-01) Güler, Hande; Özcan, Reşat; GÜLER ÖZGÜL, HANDE; Özcan, Reşat; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü; GWU-9651-2022; JIV-1490-2023Heat shields are vehicle components that prevent transferring overheating that occurs in vehicle components at high temperatures to neighboring elements and vehicle body. Embossing is a sheet metal forming process for producing bulged designs by means of matched male and female roller rigid dies. After embossing process, embossed sheets are formed with the helping of molds according to the shape of vehicle component that will be kept away from overheating and in this forming process, some bulged designs are compressed. In this paper, for researching this compressed process, the embossed sheets are compressed with upper and lower rigid platens and this process entitled as restoration process. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of restoration process on the yield, tensile and bending strengths.Publication Mechanical characterization of polylactic acid polymer 3d printed materials: The effects of infill geometry(Consejo Superior Investigaciones Cientificas-csic, 2021-07-01) Özgül, Hande Güler; Tatlı, Onur; GÜLER ÖZGÜL, HANDE; Tatlı, Onur; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Otomotiv Mühendisliği Bölümü; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Otomotiv Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0003-2733-1937; GWU-9651-2022; ABA-9255-2021Today, technological advances have led to the discovery of newly developed manufacturing methods. Additive Manufacturing technology with three-dimensional (3D) printer is one of these new methods. In this method, parts with complex geometry that cannot be produced by conventional methods can be manufactured. The most popular and low-priced method among additive manufacturing technologies is FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling). In this study, 3D printer design and manufacturing using FDM technology has been realized. Five different infill geometries such as hourglass (HG), gyroid (GY), octahedral (OC), triangle (TR) and grid (GR) have been determined, then the tensile and 3-point bending tests were applied to the manufactured Polylactic Acid polymer (PLA) samples and mechanical properties were compared with each other. The most important aspect of the study is the comparison of grid infill geometry, which has been studied extensively in the literature, and the rarely studied geometries such as hourglass, gyroid, octahedral and triangle in terms of mechanical properties. It was concluded that the different cross-section type has a significant effect, especially on tensile strength. The highest strength values were determined in the samples with triangular infill geometry.Publication Effect of temperature and rolling direction on the formability of cp2 and ti-6al-4v titanium materials(Walter De Gruyter Gmbh, 2023-09-13) Gökmen, Şaban; Ertan, Rukiye; ERTAN, RUKİYE; Özgül, Hande Güler; GÜLER ÖZGÜL, HANDE; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi.; GWU-9651-2022; KIH-2391-2024Pure (CP2) and alloyed titanium (Ti-6Al-4V) have an important place in biomedical and aerospace applications due to their low density and high strength properties. In this study, the effect of the formability of CP2 and Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy at different temperatures on mechanical properties and microstructure was investigated. The hot forming process was carried out by pressing 1 mm sheet titanium plates at different temperatures on the U profile mold. Specimens along the rolling direction and perpendicular to the rolling direction were taken from the bottom the formed U-plates. Afterward, tensile tests, microhardness measurements, and changes in microstructure were examined, respectively. As a result, at high temperatures and in different rolling directions, significant changes in microstructure and mechanical properties were observed. It was determined that the best forming temperature of CP2 and Ti-6Al-4V materials along the rolling direction was 500 degrees C, white it is 400 degrees for perpendicular to the rolling direction was 400 degrees C.Publication Effects of process parameters on the mechanical properties of dissimilar thin al welds(Carl Hanser Verlag, 2019-11-01) Özgül, Hande Güler; GÜLER ÖZGÜL, HANDE; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Otomotiv Mühendisliği Bölümü; GWU-9651-2022One of the major challenges in the resistance spot welding of thin materials is deformation during the welding process. In this study, the resistance spot welding of two different thin aluminum materials (AA1050-O with a thickness of 0.5 mm and AA5754-H111 with a thickness of 1 mm) was investigated. The effects of welding current and welding time parameters on the mechanical properties (including tensile shear strength and hardness), the nugget formation and the fracture type were analyzed and evaluated. Microstructure evolutions of the deformation process were performed via SEM. As a result, it was seen that increasing welding current leads to an increase in strength and hardness of the joints due to button pull out failure. The best mechanical properties within the parameters were observed when the welding current was at 19 kA, with 5 cycles.Publication Investigation of the tool effect on the strength of friction stir spot welded aluminum specimens: A comparative study(Carl Hanser Verlag, 2015-03-01) Güler, Hande; GÜLER ÖZGÜL, HANDE; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0001-8589-6931; GWU-9651-2022Aluminum and its alloys are widely used in the automotive industry because of their light weight and good formability as well as malleability, and an alternative welding technique, the friction stir spot welding process, can be successfully used to join these materials. In this study, friction stir spot welding is applied to an AA 5754-H111 alloy to compare the effect of tool geometry and tool material on shear strength. Welds are made using different rotational speeds of tool and dwell times ranging from 500 to 1500 rpm and 6 s to 21 s, respectively. The experimental results showed that the combination of dwell time and rotational speed of tool as well as tool geometry and tool material have an important role in the strength of the joints. The total thickness and weld nugget diameter were also investigated in this study.Publication Investigation of mechanical properties of high strength steel welded by resistance spot welding(Pamukkale Univ, 2018-01-01) Aras, Sedat; ERTAN, RUKİYE; Ertan, Rukiye; GÜLER ÖZGÜL, HANDE; Güler Özgül, Hande; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Otomotiv Mühendisliği Bölümü.; GWU-9651-2022; KIH-2391-2024In this study, DP 800, Usibor 1500 and Ductibor 500P three different high strength steel sheet materials with different thicknesses were joined with electrical resistance spot welding. Welding process is carried out in different material combinations under constant parameters such as electric current, pressure and duration. Tensile specimens for the same and different material pairs welded by resistance spot welding in the form of overlay were prepared according to the standards. Mechanical properties of the welded specimens were evaluated by hardness and tensile-shear tests. The results show that Ductibor 500P material has the highest strength and hardness values. Furthermore, when different types of steels are welded together, the maximum tensile-shear force and elongation achieved are higher than those of the same type of materials.Publication Comparison of experimental and finite element analysis results of a sheet metal prototype vehicle door hinge in X, Y and Z directions(Univ Fed Rio de Janeiro, Lab Hidrogenio, 2021-01-01) Özgül, Hande Güler; Erol, Onur; GÜLER ÖZGÜL, HANDE; Erol, Onur; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Otomotiv Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0001-8589-6931; GWU-9651-2022; ETY-2762-2022In this study, the geometric differences which have a significant effect on the simulation results of the sheet metal prototype vehicle door hinge have been revealed.
