In 2015 - 2016, excavations were started on the site which was previously declared a third degree site by the Bursa Archaeology Museum Directorate. As a result of the trial trenchings, in addition to structural remains that can be defined as workshops, residential structures built up on the slopes have been determined. These residential buildings on the hillside consist of a row of rooms and provide valuable information about the late period house architecture of the ancient city. The floor of one of these partially uncovered houses is covered with a geometric patterned mosaic floor. In addition to geometric designs on this mosaic, motifs such as kantharos, guilloche, wave pattern and ivy leaves are used together to create a highly visual and artistic composition. The mosaic floor is dated approximately to the 4th century BC.Publication The shrine of Orhangazi / Bursa: Opus sectile floor mosaic; its state of preservation and suggestions about its restoration(Uludag Univ, Mosaic Res Ctr, 2013-01-01) Şener, Y. Most of these mosaics consist of mythological designs. Among these, in addition to the personifications of gods and goddesses, some allegorical representations came to the fore. Allegory can simply be thought of as a concretization or visualization of a concept or idea for those to be understood better. In the reflection of the Greco-Roman tradition on the mosaics, we can observe that especially moral and personal values are brought to the foreground. From this point of view, designs that symbolize comfort and luxury, such as Tryphe and Bios, are quite different and varied. The subject of the study is the Tryphe and Bios Mosaic, which represents one of these examples and is exhibited at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada today. The mosaic, which is thought to be of Syrian Emesa origin and dated to approximately AD 350-400, will be defined in detail and will be evaluated iconographically and iconologically.Publication A group of edessa oriented mosaic panels exhibited in royal ontario museum(Uludag Univ, Mosaic Res Ctr, 2018-01-01) Şahin, Derya; ŞAHİN, DERYA; Ünsal, Nur Deniz; ÜNSAL, NUR DENİZ; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi/Arkeoloji Bölümü.; E-1124-2019; E-1133-2019The theme of this article is the three mosaic pavements and we think that they are oriented from Edessa qanhurfa) which are exhibited in Toronto Royal Ontario Museum today. One of the three mosaics mentioned here called the Young Girl Mosaic. This mosaic is very similar to the mosaic pavements found in Edessa rock tombs and showing local production characteristics. Artemis Mosaic, which is the second mosaic panel, reflects contemporary design features with Haleplibahce Mosaics from Edessa (Sanlizufa). The last panel reviewed in the article is the Lion Figure Mosaic. The basic characteristics of the Lion figure reflect the characteristics of Edessa local mosaic workshop. Two mosaic pavements, Young Girl Mosaic and Lion Mosaic, are dated to the first quarter of the 3rd century AD and Artemis Mosaic is dated to the beginning of the 6th century and is localized to Edessa with its style and technique characteristics and they are made in opus tessellatum technique.Publication The basilica mosaic on asar island at myndos(Uludag Univ, Mosaic Res Ctr, 2015-01-01) Şener, Y. Selçuk; Şahin, Derya; ŞAHİN, DERYA; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi/Arkeoloji Bölümü.; E-1124-2019The first time that a church's ruins have been discovered with three naves under the base of an architectural ruin of a watchtower is happened in 2009 in Myndos' Asar Island, when the archeological excavations had started at the top of the island. The ground of the church had been made by using the technique of opus tesselatum, and covered by an geometrical patterned mosaic. However that mosaic had been only protected one piece at the North nave and mostly in the middle nave.
