Item Chemical investigations on honey produced in bıngol and surroundings(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2020-05-06) Ateş, Yilmaz; Yaşar, SemihBingol and the surrounding vicinity with its climatic conditions and rich flora is a convenient area for beekeeping. In this region, beekeeping activities are increasing day by day. In this study, by analyzing saccharose, invert sugar, pH, moisture and diastase enzyme activity, it is aimed to determine the conformity of the flower honey with standards that are produced in Bingol and its surrounding area. For this purpose, 7 honey samples were collected from seven distinct areas of Bingol and its surrounding (Bingol - Central, Kigi, Solhan, Karliova, Yayladere, Genc, Adakli) and analyzed. The average contents of sucrose, invert sugar, pH, moisture and amylase enzyme activity in honey samples were determined to be 1.65%, 80.23%, 2.81, 15.43% and 0.074 units mL-1, respectively. When the biochemical analysis average of all the regions was taken into consideration, the honey was found to comply with the Turkish Food Codex, and TS 3036 criteria in terms of the examined parameters. In order to develop the beekeeping industry and high quality honey production in this region, educational activities and financial support -with various projects - should be increased. The next step is to announce the findings obtained here about Bingol honey to the whole country and even abroad, with adequate advertising activities.Item The effects of medical and aromatic plant extracts on some physiologıcal characteristics of honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) colonies(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2020-05-29) Erdoğan, Yaşar; Cengiz, M. MuratIn this study, the effects of extracts obtained from medicinal and aromatic plants added to syrups used to feeding honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) colonies on some physiological characteristics of colonies were investigated. The experiment was carried out on 6 groups of 5 colonies. These groups are syrup (S), syrup + Urtica dioica (SU), Syrup + Melissa officinalis (SM), Syrup + Hypericum perforatum (SH), Syrup + Achillea millefolium (SA) and syrup + Thymus serpyllum (ST). As a result of the research, the sealed brood area data were determined as 3013.24±1939.26, 3107.00±2060.42, 3270.81±2194.80, 3091.20±1962.69, 3273.90±2095.49 and 3613.06±2348.27 cm2 in S, SU, SM, SH, SA, ST groups, respectively. When we compare the honey yields of the experimental groups, according to group S, SU increased by 18.48%, SM 43.10%, SH 16.04%, SA 27.35% and ST 53.86%. Therefore, syrup + medicinal and aromatic plant extract mixture given to honey bee colonies may have a positive effect on colony development and honey yield.Item Land use change assesment for beekeepıng ın southeast anatolıa(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2020-04-08) Sarı, Fatih; Sarı, Fadimana KoyuncuIn this study, land use changes in Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye and Hatay provinces were determined. The study area has vital importance on honey production (citrus, cotton, etc.) for the Turkish beekeeping sector and it is very vulnerable to land use changes due to urbanization and climate change. The land use changes were determined by using 2000, 2006, 2012 and 2018 land cover maps in the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) platform. Moreover, 2000, 2006, 2012 and 2018 beekeeping statistics were retrieved to compare the land use changes and honey production. The results indicate that the fruit trees land use class has increased 1210 km2 from 2000 to 2018 because of these suitable lands for citrus production. In total, 3170 km2 natural plant areas have been destroyed within 18 years which threaten natural beekeeping activities. The study area includes 42 districts and when evaluating the beekeeping statistics, total honey production has increased from 6500 tons to 15000 tons from 2000 to 2018. For the purpose of evaluating land use change and its effects, transitions were determined for the 2000-2018 period to understand the change in land-use trends. The transitions revealed that fruit tree and agricultural lands are being enlarge by destroying the natural plant areas and other complex patterns which are important for beekeeping activities.
