Item The effect of storage environment on seed longevity(Uludağ Üniversitesi, 1995) Sivritepe, H. Özkan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Bahçe Bitkileri Bölümü.Seed moisture content, temperature, length of storage and atmospheric gases are the main factors affecting loss of seed viability and the induction of genetic damage during long-term storage of seeds. Although seeds are evaluated in three categories in terms of their storage behaviour, long-term storage is normally the preferred method of genetic conservation for orthodox seeds. Therefore, this review concerns the effect of storage environment on longevity of orthodox seeds.Item Loss of seed viability and the induction of genetic damage in aged seeds(Uludağ Üniversitesi, 1995) Sivritepe, H. Özkan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Bahçe Bitkileri Bölümü.There is a close relationship between loss of seed viability during storage and the induction of genetic damage, which is evaluated in two categories, chromosomal aberrations and phenotypic mutations. Historical background of this relationship was given in a wide range of species and, especially, recent studies in this fıeld were also reviewed in detail to update the knowledge on some conflicting aspects.Item Plant growth regulators used for decreasing the severity of alternate bearing in olive(Uludağ Üniversitesi, 1995) Eriş, Atilla; Barut, Erdoğan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi.Endogenous factors (fruit load, nutrition, hormonal balance) and exogenoııs factors (ecology, cultııral techniques) affect the alternation which is an important physiological problem. Too many studies have been carried out in olive which has a tendency to alternation in order to regulate the bearing. In recent years intensive researches have been continued related to the use of growth regulating Chemical substances (NAA, NAD, GA3, CCC, SADH ete.) nearby other cultııral techniqııes in important olive producing countries. As a matter of fact, similar studies have been started in Turkey. In the development of our olive production, it will be really usefııl t o carry out these researches more, and to put their results into practice.Item Possibie causes of the damage to chromosomes in aged seeds(Uludağ Üniversitesi, 1995) Sivritepe, H. Özkan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Bahçe Bitkileri Bölümü.Different hypotheses have been reviewed, to update the knowledge on the cause of the damage t o chromosomes as seeds age. These hypotheses (i.e., the presence of background irradiation, accumulation of automutagenic substances, lipid autoxidation and loss of DNA integrity) have been given in historical order. Although each hypoıhesis gives an idea on the damage to chromosomes in aged seeds, it is unfortunate that there is no direct evidence to show what exactly affects this phenomenon.
