Item A study of the basic parameters describing the structure of chenille yarns(Inst Chemical Fibres, 2006) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Özdemir, Özcan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik-Mimarlık Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-3283-4117; AAG-4653-2019; 6504089018; 8577587200The basic parameters describing the structure of chenille fancy yarns produced on a chenille yarn machine have been characterised. The effect of the properties of the component yarns, and that of machine parameters on the final count of the chenille yarns, have been studied. For this purpose chenille yarns were produced in different pile lengths, twist levels, yarn counts of component yarns, and an expression is derived to determine the final count of these chenille yarns. Correlation analysis confirmed a strong linear relationship with a high value of correlation coefficient (above 0.95) between the final count values of Yarn samples obtained from the expression (formula) and that obtained from the measurements.Publication An investigation into the parameters influencing the abrasion and friction properties of composite yarns containing metal wire(Inst Natl Cercetare-dezvoltare Textile Pielarie-bucuresti, 2016-01-01) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Aytaş, Hüseyin; ÇEVEN, ERHAN KENAN; Aytaş, Hüseyin; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi; 0000-0003-3283-4117; AAG-4653-2019; EMH-5235-2022This paper is focused on the selected parameters that influence the abrasion and friction properties of composite yarns containing metal wire. In the experimental study, the composite yarns containing metal wire were produced on a hollow spindle twisting machine according to the method of covering. The composite yarns containing metal wire were produced with seven different cover yarns varying in their raw materials and structures. These were: polypropylene, cotton, polyester/cotton core-spun, continuous filament polyester, continuous filament nylon 6.6, polyester/polyester core-spun, and polyester cut fiber yarns. These yarns were cross covered over stainless steel (SS) wires having two different diameters of 50 pm and 100 pm. The performance tests selected for these yarns were abrasion and friction as because these types of yarns are vulnerable to rubbing. Abrasion tests of composite yarns containing metal wire were performed with a modified crockmeter test instrument while the friction tests were carried out by using a yarn friction coefficient measurement device. According to the results of the statistical analyses performed using the experimental values obtained from the tests, abrasion resistance and friction properties of the composite yarns were affected by the yarn parameters like cover yarn type and wire diameter.Item Antimicrobial and water repellency performance of polypropylene outdoor fabrics subjected to sequential finishing processes(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2021-10-19) Günaydın, Gizem Karakan; Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Kut, Dilek Toprakkaya; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-3283-4117; 0000-0002-9059-0838Polypropylene fabrics are one of the most preferred products for outdoor textiles. With the risks posed by the pandemic in the last year, outdoor textiles are expected to have some additional features such as antibacterial, antivirus, antimildew properties. Antimicrobial finishing and water repellency treatment may be applied consecutively on polypropylene fabrics. This research aims to investigate the effect of sequential finishing process by applying of different antimicrobial chemical ratio (0, 5 and 10 g/l) and fluorocarbon-based water repelling substance (0, 30 and 50 g/l) on antimicrobial efficiency and water repellency grades of outdoor fabrics. According to the results of statistical analyses, it was determined that antimicrobial efficiency against S. aureus and C. albicans was statistically influenced from process type at significance level of 0.05, while antimicrobial efficiency against E.coli microorganism was not statistically influenced from process type. Antimicrobial activity of outdoor samples was more satisfying against S. aureus microorganism. Water repellency results generally improved as the applied amount of water repellent substance increased for the fabrics treated with the same amount of antimicrobial substance.Item Comparative study of abrasion resistance property between woven fabrics produced with chenille and flock yarns(Inst Natl Cercetare-Dezvoltare Textile Pielarie-Bucuresti, 2009) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-3283-4117; AAG-4653-2019; 6504089018In this experimental study, it is investigated comparatively the effect on abrasion resistance of the presence of chenille and flock yarns, as weft yarn in the structure of woven fabrics. Fabrics under study were produced with varying weft densities and weave types. Chenille yarns are produced with different twist levels on a chenille yarn machine. Flock yarns are produced with polyester core yarn covered with adhesive and with polyester pile fibers glued to the core yam. According to the results, fabrics with high weft density and low float length have less mass loss values after abrasion test. The fabrics manufactured with flock type yams have a higher abrasion resistance than the chenille type of yarns Chenille yarns with high twist levels bring about an improvement in abrasion resistance of fabrics.Item Comparison of the selected physical properties of elastane weft knitted fabrics before and after repeated launderings(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2019-01-24) Günaydın, Gizem Karakan; Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Eren, Hüseyin Aksel; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.It was aimed to investigate the influence of washing cycle and fabric type on stretching (%), unrecovered elongation (%) and elastic recovery properties of plain knitted fabrics made of different ground yarn types having the same elastane ratio (%). For the plain knitted fabrics; Elastane ratio was kept constant as 5% for all fabric types whereas the ground yarns were selected as 70% polyester 30% cotton vortex yarn, 70% polyester 30%viscon ring yarn, 70% polyester 30%cotton ring yarn, 100%viscon vortex and 100% cotton ring spun yarns respectively. Knitted samples were objected to repeated laundering and flat dried after each washing cycle. Fabric weight (g/m2 ) after the washing cycles of 1, 5 and 10 were premeasured. Fryma fabric extensometer device was used for determining the stretching ratios (%), unrecovered elongation (%) and elastic recovery (%) of the samples both in wale and course way. Two-Way ANOVA was performed in order to investigate the influence of washing cycle and fabric type on stretching (%) and unrecovered elongation (%) properties of the elastane knitted fabrics.Item Effect of structural parameters on burning behavior of polyester fabrics having flame retardancy property(IOP Publishing, 2017-05-29) Günaydın, G. K.; Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-3283-4117; AAG-4653-2019; 6504089018The aim of this study is filling the gap in the literature about investigating the effect of yarn and fabric structural parameters on burning behavior of polyester fabrics. According to the experimental design three different fabric types, three different weft densities and two different weave types were selected and a total of eighteen different polyester drapery fabrics were produced. All statistical procedures were conducted using the SPSS Statistical software package. The results of the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) tests indicated that; there were statistically significant (5% significance level) differences between the mass loss ratios (%) in weft and mass loss ratios (%) in warp direction of different fabrics calculated after the flammability test. The Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK) results for mass loss ratios (%) both in weft and warp directions revealed that the mass loss ratios (%) of fabrics containing Trevira CS type polyester were lower than the mass loss ratios of polyester fabrics subjected to washing treatment and flame retardancy treatment.Item The effect of vacuum steaming parameters on the physical properties of chenille yarns(Inst Chemical Fibres, 2008) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Özdemir, Özcan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-2494-6485; 0000-0003-3283-4117; B-1488-2019; AAG-4653-2019; 6504089018; 8577587200In this study, the effects of vacuum steaming process parameters on the physical properties of chenille yarns and fabrics were studied For this purpose chenille yarns were produced with viscose and acrylic pile and core yarns in different yarns counts. The chenille yarns were subjected to vacuum steaming at varying process parameters for example the steaming temperature (60, 80 and 110 degrees C) and steaming period (20, 40 and 60 minutes). According to the results of statistical analyses performed using experimental values obtained before and after vacuum steaming, physical parameters, like yarn count, twist, tenacity, elongation and work-of-break values were affected by the vacuum steaming process. An increase in fabric abrasion resistance was observed when the vacuum steamed chenille yarns were used as filling in the woven fabric construction. Process parameters are significant regarding change in yarn count and twist, but are insignificant regarding change in work-of-break values. Temperature is not a significant factor during any change in the tenacity of viscose chenille yarn, but is a significant factor in any change in the elongation values of acrylic chenille yarns.Item Effect of wet laundering on stretching and air permeability properties of polyester warp knitted fabrics with different fabric weights(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2018-10-08) Günaydın, Gizem Karakan; Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.Warp knitting technology combines the two properties of dimensional stability and elasticity which are provided from woven and knitted fabrics separately. These fabrics consist of several threads (warp) which are formed as loops via needles and run through the fabric mainly in a vertical direction. These fabrics may be produced on a flat or a circular warp knitting machines. This study aims to investigate the influence of washing cycles (1, 5 and 20) on stretching (%) and air permeability properties of the polyester warp knitted fabrics of different weight. In order to analyze the effect of washing process on stretching ratios (%) and air permeability of the samples; Fyrma fabric extensometer and SDL Atlas M021A model Air Permeability Tester devices were used respectively. Additionally, the changes in fabric weight according to washing cycles of 1, 5 and 20 were also evaluated. According to test results; the stretching properties and air permeability values of the polyester warp knitted fabrics produced in different weights varied according to the laundering cycle which emphasized that caring processes should also be considered during the evaluation of mechanical properties (such as stretching, air permeability properties) of polyester warp knitted fabrics. Item Evaluation of chenille fabric abrasion performance with several abrasion test methods(Assoc Textile Engineers Technicians, 2005-11) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Özdemir, Özcan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-2494-6485; 0000-0003-3283-4117; B-1488-2019; AAG-4653-2019; 6504089018; 8577587200The main objective of this study is to investigate the abrasion properties of upholstery fabrics from chenille yarns, comparatively using different abrasion test methods. The abrasion resistance measurements of the test samples are performed on a Martindale abrasion tester. Several abrasion test methods are employed, determination of abrasion cycle (pile abrasion started), ASTM 4158-82, EN ISO 1294 7-2 for woven fabrics and EN ISO 1294 7-2 for pile fabrics using chenille fabric samples to investigate the sensitivity of different evaluation methods to various yarn parameters. Furthermore, a chenille yarn abrasion device is used to measure abrasion resistance in the yarn form. Correlation analyses reveal the relationships between variables of yarn mass loss (016), fabric mass loss (016), and abrasion cycles (pile abrasion started, pile is fully worn off, and two threads are broken). The experimental results show that abrasion resistance of the fabrics tested are significantly affected by chenille yarn production parameters and fiber types for all the test methods employed. Evaluations are made of the practical uses of different abrasion methods.Item Evaluation of chenille fabric abrasion performance with several abrasion test methods(Assoc Textile Engineers Technicians Croatia, 2005-11) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Özdemir, Özcan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-3283-4117; AAG-4653-2019; 6504089018; 8577587200The main objective of this study is to investigate the abrasion properties of upholstery fabrics from chenille yams, comparatively using different abrasion test methods. In this study different chenille yarns were produced from sirospun and two-folded ring, 100% wool and 50% wool-50% polyester blend yarns of different fiber fineness. A yarn abrasion device was designed in order to measure the abrasion resistance of chenille yarns and the abrasion resistance of knitted fabrics made from these yarns was measured with a Martindale Abrasion tester. In addition, chenille yarns abraded for different numbers of abrasion cycles were analyzed using a computerized image analysis method to evaluate the abrasion behavior. The results were analyzed statistically. According to the results, the use of wool blends and sirospun yams as pile materials led to an improvement in abrasion resistance. Correlation analyses confirmed strong linear relationships with high values of correlation coefficients (above 0.9) between the mass loss values obtained from abrasion tests and the abrasion coefficients of the chenille yams obtained from image analysis.Item Evaluation of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of fabrics produced from yarns containing metal wire with a mobile based measurement system(Inst Natl Cercetare-Dezvoltare Textile Pielarie-Bucuresti, 2017) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Karaküçük, Ahmet; Dirik, Ahmet Emir; Yalçın, Uğur; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Elektrik-Elektronik Mühendisliği Bölümü.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Bilgisayar Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0002-3175-6041; 0000-0002-3175-6041; 0000-0003-3283-4117; 0000-0002-6200-1717; AAD-9762-2019; A-1996-2017; AAG-4653-2019; K-6977-2012; AAG-8951-2021; 6504089018; 56008029100; 57195737260; 16023664100This paper comprises an evaluation of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of woven fabrics containing stainless steel wire with a new mobile based method. Cross covered hybrid weft yarns were produced with polyester and stainless steel metal wires. The conductive fabrics were produced by using the hybrid weft and texturized polyester warp yarns. Fabrics were tested in vertical and horizontal positions to determine the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMSE). All EMSE measurements were performed with a mobile based test method. This method is based on the principle of measuring GSM signals by mobile-based software and analyzing them by statistical methods. EMSE property of the woven fabrics was found to be affected by the hybrid yarn parameters like fabric parameters of ply number and ply direction, as indicated by statistical analyses. Analyses based on Okumura-Hata Model also verified test results. It was concluded that the proposed new mobile based measurement system can be used reliably to determine the EMSE of conductive fabrics.Publication Evaluation of some comfort and mechanical properties of knitted fabrics made of different regenerated cellulosic fibres(Korean Fiber Soc, 2021-01-19) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Günaydin, Gizem Karakan; ÇEVEN, ERHAN KENAN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü; 0000-0003-3283-4117; AAG-4653-2019Knitted fabrics with a wide range of fabric construction varying in fibre type, yarn type is frequently preferred by consumers owing to their high comfort properties. Today new, functional and biodegradable, natural fibre based raw materials are mostly considered for knitted fabrics and clothing designs with a sustainable consumer manner. Collagen peptide added fibres are the recent improved regenerated cellulosic fibres which are known to be providing a skin friendly texture with high thermal and moisture comfort. Within this study, some performance properties such as thermal properties, water vapour permeability, water vapour resistance, air permeability as well as bursting strength of greige and dyed knitted samples made of 100 % Tencel (TM), Modal, Cupro, Umorfil (R), combed cotton and carded cotton yarn were evaluated. ANOVA test was performed for the statistical evaluation of yarn and fabric properties. According to ANOVA results, regenerated cellulosic yarn type of knitted fabrics and the process type (untreated greige fabric or dyed fabric) were generally significant factors on mentioned performance properties of knitted fabrics. The results of experiments also revealed that beside the regenerated cellulosic fibres, new developed collagen peptide added Umorfil (R) fibre may be used as the raw material of knitted fabrics for sport garments with satisfying comfort results.Item Factors affecting bending and abrasion behaviors of woven fabrics produced with centipede yarns(Association of Textile Engineers Technicians Croatia, 2011-10) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Çokkeser, Hatice Kübra; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-3283-4117; AAG-4653-2019; 6504089018; 55351341800The aim of this research was to analyze the influence of centipede yarn production parameters on bending and abrasion behavior of woven fabrics produced with these yarns. The centipede yarns were used as filling in the woven fabric construction. According to the results of the statistical analyses bending properties in warp and weft directions and abrasion property of the fabrics were affected by the centipede yarn structural parameters which are band yarn count and chain number On the other hand, abrasion property and only weft direction bending length of the fabrics were affected by pile material. Item Influence of chenille yarn manufacturing parameters on yarn and upholstery fabric abrasion resistance(Sage Publications, 2004-01) Özdemir, Özcan; Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-3283-4117; AAG-4653-2019; 8577587200; 6504089018In this study, forty-eight different chenille yarns are produced on a chenille machine using a range of material types, twists, and gauges. In the first group, 4 Nm count chenille yarns are produced with six different pile materials, two different twists, and two different gauges. In the second group, 6 Nm count chenille yarns are produced with the same machine and material parameters. In order to measure the performance of chenille yarns, their abrasion resistance is measured with a chenille yarn abrasion device, and the abrasion resistance of upholstery fabrics made from these yarns used as filling is measured with a Martindale wear and abrasion tester. The results of pile loss are evaluated according to material type, twist, and pile length of the chenille yams. Clearly, there is an improvement in abrasion resistance with increasing twist, gauge (pile length), and the use of natural fibers as pile materials, which may be due to increasing frictional behavior between the pile and lock yarns.Item Influence of selected parameters centipede yarns on air permeability property of woven fabrics produced with these yarns(Inst Natl Cercetare, 2011) Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0003-3283-4117; AAG-4653-2019; 6504089018This paper is focused on the selected factors that influence the air permeability property of woven fabrics produced with centipede yarns. In the experimental study, the centipede yarns were produced on a Crochet machine with varying chain numbers and band lengths. The centipede yarns were used as filling in the woven fabric construction. Air permeability measurements were performed with a digital test instrument. According to the results of the statistical analyses performed using the experimental values obtained from the tests, air permeability property of the fabrics was affected by the centipede yarns parameters like chain number and band length. Fabrics woven with the centipede yarns with higher chain number and band length had less air permeability than those with lower chain number and band length. The air permeability of the fabrics decreased with the increase in centipede yarn linear density.Item Influence of women’s dress woven fabric structure on bending and drapability properties(Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2017-04-11) Gürarda, Ayça; Çeven, Erhan Kenan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Tekstil Mühendisliği Bölümü.Good tailorability is a required property for clothing manufacturers. Vortex yarns and the fabrics produced from these yarns have aroused interest for the last years owing to lower yarn production cost and the satisfying fabric comfort properties. Within this work, core-spun vortex knitted fabrics of three different yarn count (400, 300, and 200 dtex) with six different core yarn type (70 dtex Polyvinyl alcohol, 110/36 dtex/filament polyester yarn, 80/36 dtex/filament polyester yarn, 110/333 dtex/filament micro polyester yarn, 50/96 dtex/filament, 120 dtex staple polyester vortex yarn) and two different sheath sliver types (100% viscose, polyester-viscose blended sliver) were studied. Moisture management transport property (MMT), water vapor permeability, and air permeability properties of those knitted fabrics were evaluated comparatively. Obtained results were statistically evaluated using three-way ANOVA test. It was determined that core yarn type, sheath sliver type, and yarn linear density were generally influential factors on MMT, water vapor permeability, air permeability properties of the core-spun vortex fabrics at significance level of 0.05. Correlation analyses between yarn hairiness and water vapor permeability as well as between yarn hairiness and air permeability were indicated. The conducted work provides an initial phase toward a better understanding of influence of some core-spun vortex yarn parameters on comfort properties of knitted fabrics.
