Hıristiyan Kutsal Kitab'ında din terimi

Abstract

Bu çalışma giriş, iki bölüm ve sonuç kısımlarından oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde ‘Hıristiyanlık’, ‘Kutsal Kitap’ ve ‘Din’ terimleri genel olarak ele alınmıştır. Birinci bölümde Klasik ve Modern kaynaklara göre din teriminin etimolojisi araştırılmıştır. İkinci bölümde Kitab-ı Mukaddes’te din terimi incelenmiştir. Ayrıca diğer Hıristiyan dinsel kaynaklara da kısmen değinilmiştir. Sonuç kısmında Antik dönemden Modern döneme kadar uzanan din teriminin değişen anlamları karşılaştırmalı olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Birçok batı dilinde din terimi, Hıristiyanlığa Latince ile birlikte geçen ‘Religio’ teriminden türetilmiştir. Batı’da modern anlamda muhtelif inanç sistemlerine atıfta bulunmak için kullanılmadan önce Latince kökenli bu terim Eskiçağ’da ‘bağlılık’ ya da ‘tapınmak’, Hıristiyanlık tarafından belirlenmiş olan Ortaçağ’da Manastır kurumu, Yeniçağ’da ise aşkın ya da içkin bir sezgi gibi anlamlarla ilişkilendirilmiştir. Latince ‘Religio’ teriminin kökenini ve tarihini araştırmak, bu terim ile ilişkilendirilen muhtelif anlamların geçmişten günümüze doğru nasıl değiştiğini daha belirgin kılacaktır.

This study consists of an introduction, two sections and a conclusion. The introduction is dealing with the terms ‘Christianity’, ‘Bible’ and ‘Religion’ in general terms. The first chapter is about the etymology of the term ‘religion’ according to Classical and Modern views. The second chapter is about the term ‘religio’ in the Bible and in part of other Latin Christian sources. The conclusion section summarizes the change of meaning of the term from its Ancient origins down to Modern times. The term ‘religion’ used in many Western languages derives from the Latin term ‘religio’, which was adopted with the Latin language by Christianity. This term is used in the West in a modern sense as a system of believe. In Antiquity the meaning of it was related to the notion of a ‘bund’ or ‘cult’. In the Middle Ages, effected by Christianity, the meaning of the term was related to monastic institution and in the New Age to sentimental intuition. The study of the etymology and history of the Latin term ‘religio’ will reflect how the meaning of this term had changed dramatically in the course of western history.
