Tozlayıcı olarak bal arıları ve bombus arıları, ticari hibrit tohum üretiminde de yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Yabancı döllenen sebzelerde döllenme, dolayısı ile meyve ve tohum gelişimi için polenlerin erkek çiçeklerden dişi çiçeğe taşınması gerekir. Bu bitkilerde tozlaşmanın neredeyse tamamı arılar tarafından gerçekleştirilmektedir. Yabancı döllenen bitkilerde arılarının kullanılması, verimin maksimize edilmesinde en etkili ve çevre dostu yaklaşım olarak kabul edilmektedir.Pollination is the first step in assuring fertilization, and the most important factor in determining product amounts.
