Various clinical types of acne vulgaris may affect superficial and/or deep dermis leading to formation of various skin stains and scars. These can manifest as simple erythema and pigment changes as well as hypertrophic or atrophic scars. The most important step in treating acne scars is an effective treatment of the early inflammatory acne to prevent formation of a scar.
