" Neck treatment and shoulder morbidity: Still a challenge". Head and Neck-Journal or the Sciences and Specialties of the Head and Neck, 33(7), 1060-1067.1043-30741097-0347https://doi.org/10.1002/hed.21495https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/hed.21495http://hdl.handle.net/11452/22624Shoulder complaints and functional impairment are common sequelae of neck dissection. This is often attributed to injury of the spinal accessory nerve by dissection or direct trauma. Nevertheless, shoulder morbidity may also occur in cases in which the spinal accessory nerve has been preserved. In this article, the physiology and patho-physiology of the shoulder are discussed, followed by a consideration of the impact of neck dissection on shoulder complaints, functional impairment, and quality of life. Finally, rehabilitation will be considered.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessOtorhinolaryngologySurgeryShoulder morbidityNeck dissectionSpinal accessory nerveQuality of lifePhysical therapyRehabilitationSpinal accessory nerveQuality-of-lifeLaryngeal squamous carcinomaSublevel iibTrapezius muscleSupport preservationUpper extremityLymph-nodeLevel-iibDissectionAccessory nerve diseasesAccessory nerve injuriesBursitisHead and neck neoplasmsHumansMuscle, skeletalNeck dissectionNeck painPhysical therapy modalitiesPostoperative complicationsQuality of lifeRadiotherapyRange of motion, articularRecovery of functionShoulderShoulder jointNeck treatment and shoulder morbidity: Still a challengeReview0002925491000192-s2.0-799592543411060106733720960564OtorhinolaryngologySurgeryNeck Dissection; Accessory Nerve Injuries; Cervical PlexusCranial nerveCranial nerve injuryFunctional diseaseHead and neck carcinomaHumanHumeroscapular periarthritisMonitoringMorbidityNeck dissectionNeck painNerve reconstructionPhysiotherapyPriority journalQuality of lifeRadiotherapyRehabilitationReviewShoulderShoulder painSpinal accessory nerve palsySpinal accessory root
