Damage occurs in many end organs in diabetic patients. Eyes are also among the end organs and DM causes morbidity related to diabetic retinopathy. It is estimated that 10 % of the diabetic patients have visual impairment and 2 % have blindness. Diabetic macular edema is the main cause for visual impairment in patients with diabetic retinopathy. Treatment of the DME gains importance with new treatment modalities in last decade. Ocular medical treatment modalities were discussed with the review of recent literature.enEndothelial growth-factorIntravitreal triamcinolone acetonidePosterior subtenon injectionRandomized clinical-trialRetina study-groupFactor trap-eyeBevacizumab avastinLaser treatmentVisual-acuityGrid photocoagulationMacular edemaLaser photocoagulationIntravitreal injectionVegfScience & technologyLife sciences & biomedicineMedicine, general & internalGeneral & internal medicineDiabetic macular edema and ocular medical treatment optionsReview000215587000039237245610.4328/JCAM.3213
