''An investigation into the use of a cyclone separator in the intake air system and its influence on the engine performance''. Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, 232(5), 667-678.0954-4070https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0954407017704879https://hdl.handle.net/11452/39213Filters are used to decontaminate the particles from the outside environment entering different subsystems of vehicles. Conventional air filters can cause a significant pressure drop in the intake air system because of their porous structure. In this study, a cyclone separator was designed and manufactured for the air intake system of an automobile. The pressure drop and the performance parameters of the engine were measured by using a conventional air filter or a cyclone separator in the air intake system. Futhermore, a computational fluid dynamics analysis of the cyclone separator was performed, and the results were compared with the experimental data.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessEngineeringTransportationCyclone separatorAir intake systemPressure dropCut-off diameterTangential inlet cycloneCollection efficiencyFlowAir filtersAutomobile manufactureComputational fluid dynamicsCyclone separatorsDropsEnginesPressure dropComputational fluid dynamics analysisCut-off diameterEngine performanceIntake airPerformance parametersPorous structuresAn investigation into the use of a cyclone separator in the intake air system and its influence on the engine performanceArticle0004299154000062-s2.0-850453789236676782325https://doi.org/10.1177/0954407017704879Engineering, mechanicalTransportation science & technologyCyclone Separators; Gas; Pressure Drop2041-2991
