Gebeliğin erken evresinde korpus luteumun çıkartılması abortusla sonuçlanmaktadır. Gebeliğin devamını olumsuz etkileyen luteal faz yetmezliğinde endometriumun sekretuar faza dönüşümü yetersiz ve beklenenden kısa süreli olmaktadır. Özelllikle in-vitro fertilizasyonda (IVF) kullanılan overi stimüle edici protokoller luteal faz problemlerine yol açmakta ve progesteron desteği gerektirmektedir. Bu derlemede menstrüel siklüste, luteal fazın fizyolojisi, overi stimüle edici ajanlar ile değişimi, luteal faz yetmezliği ve desteklenmesinde güncel yaklaşımlar özetlenmektedir.Luteal phase is the period between ovulation and menstruation and it is characterized by the formation of corpus luteum which produces progesterone. Progesterone secretion initiates the secretory transformation of endometrium and prepares it for implantation. Removal of the corpus luteum during early pregnancy results with abortion. Secretory transformation of endometrium is inadequate and shorter in duration in luteal phase defect which adversely affects the outcome of pregnancy. Ovarian stimulation protocols used mainly for in-vitro fertilization (IVF) lead to luteal phase problems and necessitate the progesterone support.
