After the discovery of antimicrobial agents, serum therapy for bacterial infections was rapidly forsaken. In the last two decades, problems with treatment of newly emerged, re-emerged, or persistent infectious diseases necessitated researchers to develop new and/or improved antibody-based therapeutic approaches. This article reviews some information on the use of antibodies for the treatment of infectious diseases, with special reference to the most seminal discoveries and current advances as well as available treatment approaches in this field.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessImmunoglobulinSeptic shockAntibody therapyInfectious diseasesHuman-immunodeficiency-virusTumor-necrosis-factorHuman monoclonal-antibodyPlacebo-controlled trialIntravenous immunoglobulin therapyBone-marrow transplantationGram-negative bacteremiaB immune globulinLipid-a domainBiochemistry & molecular biologyBiotechnology & applied microbiologyAnimaliaBacteria (microorganisms)CytomegalovirusAnimalsAntibodies, bacterialAntibodies, monoclonalVirus diseasesAntibodies, viralInfectionBacterial infectionsImmunotherapyHumansAnimalBacterial infectionsHumanImmunotherapyVirus diseasesBack to the future: Antibody-based strategies for the treatment of infectious diseasesReview0001764685000042-s2.0-003663458222523921312102547Biochemistry & molecular biologyBiotechnology & applied microbiologyRespiratory Distress Syndrome, Adult; Allied Health Personnel; Disaster DisasterHepatitis B vaccineBacterium antibodyMonoclonal antibodyVirus antibodyAntibodyCentoxinChickenpox vaccineCytomegalovirus vaccineDiphtheria antibodyHepatitis A vaccineImmunoglobulinThromboembolismInterleukin 6 antibodyDrug costMeasles vaccineImmunotherapyMumps VaccineNeutralizing antibodyBacterial infectionRabies vaccineAseptic meningitisRubella vaccineAntimicrobial activityTetanus antibodyAntigen bindingTumor necrosis factor antibody animalBacterial infectionRevie antibody productionHumanDrug researchImmunotherapyInfectionDrug useInfectionKidney failureNonhuman
