Abstract

Inheritance of resistance to common bunt has been studied using resistant bread wheat cultivars, Kıraç 66, Yayla 305, PI 1783 83 and Llokofen, and susceptible cultivars Gerek 79, Bolal 2973, Kutluk 94 and ES 90-8-1. Parents, Fi and F3 progenies from crosses of resistant/resistant and resistant/ susceptible cultivars and BC^ lines of these combinations with the susceptible parents were tested with the common bunt isolate, ESK-1. Chi-Square test was used to analyze the segregation ratios in F3 and BC^. Tests of 7 1 plants from all combinations indicated that resistance was dominant. No cytoplasmic effects of the female parents were found from the results of testing reciprocals of the crosses. The segregation ratios of F3 and BCi from the combinations used in this study indicated that while Kıraç 66, Yayla 305 and Llokofen had 3 dominant genes; PI 1783 83 had more than 3 dominant genes for the resistance to common bunt. It was supposed that one of the susceptible parents used in this study, Kutluk 94, has also one or more major or minor gene/s. The results of the tests of F3 and BCi from resistant/resistant combinations showed that at least one gene is common for resistance in Kıraç 66, Yayla 305, PI1783 83 and Llokofen. The resistant cultivars used in this study possess many genes, and have been carrying their resistance for many years.
