Abstract
Makrofaj (Mk) lar atherosklerotik lezyonlarda çok miktarda bulunan hücrelerdendir. Atherogenezis'de Mk'ların rolleri giderek önem kazanmaktadır. Ateroskleroz (As)'un "immünolojik başlangıçlı, enflamatuar bir yanıt" olarak geliştiği teorisini Mk'ın çeşitli aktiviteleri açıklar ve destekler gibidir. Mk'dan salgılanan çeşitli toksik maddeler, enzimler, bağ dokusu elemanları, sinyol maddeleri ve gelişim faktörlerinin salgılanması, atherogenesis de önemli olabilir. Özellikle As'da Mk modifiye lipoprotein (Lp) reseptörlerinde görülen artış, hiperlipidemiye bağlı As patogenezini açıklayabilir ve virütik enfeksiyonlar sonucu gelişen As'da olduğu gibi "enflamatuar bir yanıt" gibi kabul edilebilir. Ama diğer risk faktörleri (ör. diabet, hipertansiyon, emosyonel stres) ile Mk'ın enflamatuar yanıtı arasındaki ilişki henüz tam açıklanamamıştır.
Macrophage (Mc)s are found abundantly in the atlterosclerotic lesions. The role of the Mc's in atherogenesis is gradually gaining importance. Some effector functions of Mcs, can explain and support the theory which says that, atherogenesis has an immunological beginning and atherosclerosis (As) is an inflammatory response. The toxic substances, various enzymes, connective tissue components, signal substances and growth factors which are secreted from the Mcs can play significant roles in atherogenesis. Particularly, modified Mc lipoprotein (Lp) receptors which increase in number in As, can explain the pathogenesis of As, secondary to hyperlipidemia. It can be accepted as an inflammatory response as it is seen in the As secondary to virutic infections. However, the correlations of some other atheroslerotic risk factors (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, emotional stress) with the inflammatory response of Mcs have yet to be explained.
