Abstract

The magnetic properties of amorphous materials vary with their chemical composition. Two types of amorphous ribbon, Metglas 2605SC and 2705M, were used to analyze the variation in flux direction with applied force at different flux density levels and frequencies. The induced voltages on the search coil wound parallel to the ribbon length was very significant in Metglas 2605SC, although it was found unaltered in Metglas 2705M tested at 1 kHz. Better working conditions were obtained on 2605SC sample while an unstable voltage was measured at high frequencies on 2705M. A higher variation in the induced voltage was obtained with applied stress from, as the stress dependence of the domain wall motion is crucial for the correct performance of the sensor. This investigation highlights the influence of bending stress in highly magnetostrictive and near zero magnetostrictive ribbons and concludes that the flux deviation in transverse direction may be influenced by applying stress onto the ribbons.
