Abstract
Thomas Hobbes’un siyaset felsefesi ele alınırken en çok gönderme yapılan ifadelerden birinin “homo homini lupus”, yani “insan insanın kurdudur” sözü olduğu söylenebilir. Geleneksel yorum, düşünürün bu sözü, doğa durumundaki insanın halet-i ruhiyesini ve insanın doğasını betimlemek için kullandığını ileri sürmüştür. Ne var ki, bağlamından kopartılmış bu yorum pek çok açıdan yanlıştır. Bu yanlışın düzeltilebilmesi için öncelikle Hobbes’un düşüncesinde “metafor” kavramının yerinin ve öneminin tespit edilmesi gerekir. Böylelikle metaforun felsefi ve politik anlamı gözler önüne serilebilecektir. Bu makalenin esas amacı, Hobbes’un meşhur ifadesini yerli yerine oturtmak ve böylelikle doğru bilinen bir yanlışı düzeltmeye çalışmaktır. Buna bağlı olarak ikinci amacı da, kurt metaforunun kullanımının felsefi bir polemik içerdiğine dair ipuçlarına işaret etmektir.
It can be said that when examining the political philosophy of Thomas Hobbes, one of the most cited statements is “homo homini lupus.” The traditional interpretation claimed that the philosopher uses this motto in order to describing the human figure and human nature in state of nature. But that interpretation, which is detached from its context, is wrong in many ways. In order to correcting this mistake, first of all, it requires the determination of the place and importance of the concept of “metaphor” in Hobbes’ thought. Thus, the philosophical and political meanings of metophor can be revealed. The main aim of this article is to put Hobbes’ famous motto into the proper context and try to correct a false fact. Accordingly, its second purpose is to point out clues that the Hobbesian use of the wolf metaphor contains a philosophical polemic.
