Zaman, Tanrı ve dört-boyutçuluk

Abstract

Bu tez, zamanın modern anlayış biçimleri ve modern zaman felsefesi ve modern analitik felsefe ve din felsefesi bağlamında zaman ve Tanrı’nın ilişkisi üzerine odaklanmaktadır. Tezde kullandığım metot, çoğunlukla, hangi zaman anlayışının daha savunulabilir olduğunu bulmak ve bu anlamda bir sonuca varabilmek için kullandığım diyalektik metottur. Bunun için, ilk bölümde, zaman felsefesinde ilk modern görüşlerden birisi olan ve modern tartışmaların başlangıcını oluşturan McTaggart’ın zaman felsefesi üzerinde durdum. Bu bölümde McTaggart’ın zaman felsefesini ve Russell’ın buna cevabını ayrıntılı bir şekilde ele aldım. Üçüncü bölümde, zaman felsefesinde pek çok görüş olmasına karşılık Şimdicilik, hareket eden şimdi görüşü ve ezelilicilik olarak bilinen üç farklı görüşü konu aldım. Bu tezde Ezeliciliğin -dolayısıyla Dört-boyutçuluğun- hem tanımsal hem de pozitif bilimler hem de din felsefesi anlamında savunulması gerektiğini ileri sürdüm. Şimdicilik, hareket eden şimdi ve Dört-boyutçuluk arasındaki tartışmaları ayrıntılı bir şekilde ele almak suretiyle Dört-boyutçuluğun savunulabilir zaman felsefesi olduğu kanaatine vardım. Tanrı ve onun zamanla ilişkisini ele aldığım son bölümde Tanrı’nın dört özelliği (mutlak ilmi, mükemmellik, ezelilik ve değişmezliği) ve bunlara nasıl yaklaşılması gerektiği üzerinde durdum. Dört-boyutçuluğu savunmak için çoğunlukla Neo-Platoncu zaman anlayışına başvurarak Dört-boyutçuluğun Tanrı ve onun bizim dünyamızla ilişkisini anlamak için yegâne zaman felsefesi olduğu sonucuna ulaştım.

This thesis is focusing on the various modern understandings and philosophies of time and the relationship of God with time in terms of modern analytic philosophy and philosophy of religion. The methods I use in this thesis is mostly dialectical method through I come to conclusion and decide which view of time to be hold for a tenable philosophy of time. Towards this end, in the first chapter I repose on McTaggart’s philosophy of time which is one of the first modern views on the philosophy of time and which marked a beginning for the modern discussions. In this chapter I break down McTaggart’s philosophy of time and Russell’s response regarding the reductionism of B series. In the second chapter, though there are many views on philosophy of time, I deal with three different approaches known as presentism, moving spotlight, and eternalism. In this part, I argue that eternalism - hence four-dimensionalism- should be favored in terms of both modern philosophy of time in terms of positive and descriptive sciences and philosophy of religion. I have thoroughly discussed presentism, moving spotlight and four-dimensionalism with all their variants and combinations and the general discussions in literature thereby concluded that four-dimensionalism should be held for a justifiable philosophy of time. In the final chapter, which is about God and his relationship with time, I discuss four properties of God (omniscience, perfection, eternality, and immutability) and how these should be approached with a view understanding them. I mostly employed the Neo-Platonist view on time in favor of four-dimensionalism, thus I come to the conclusion that four-dimensionalism is the only tenable philosophy of time for understanding God and his relationship with our world.
