Publication 1-MCP, low O2 and high CO2 reduce disorders and extend vase life of "Rosalin" gerberas during storage(Taylor and Francis, 2013-03) Akbudak, Bülent; Murat, Şenay; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Tarla Bitkileri Bölümü.; 56253171700; 55484924000The hormone ethylene performs an important function in the processes related to the senescence of cut flowers, and, in particular, anti-ethylene treatments are recommended to extend the vase life of orchids. Among the treatments currently used for such postharvest treatment, 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) is an efficient inhibitor of the autocatalytic production of ethylene. Although postharvest 1-MCP treatment is used to counter ethylene activity and delay senescence in fresh produce, its potential application in cut flowers has not been adequately tested. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of 1-MCP treatment with modified atmosphere packaging on the shelf life of cut Rosalin gerberas. To this end, gerberas harvested at commercial maturity were divided into two groups: 1-MCP treatment (625 ppb at 4 +/- 1 degrees C for 4 hours) and no treatment. Both groups of flowers were stored under normal and modified atmosphere conditions at 4 +/- 1 degrees C and 80 +/- 5% relative humidity. The flowers were covered with materials of different characteristics for the modified atmosphere. To determine the differences between the treatments, quality parameters were examined in the flowers at 7-day intervals during the storage. The 1-MCP treatment with both the normal and modified atmosphere significantly reduced the overall postharvest loss in quality. The best results for the quality characteristics determined were obtained from the 1-MCP and 30 mu m polyvinylchloride combined treatment. These results indicate that 1-MCP and a modified atmosphere treatment are good methods for extending the vase life, maintaining the visual quality, and reducing the loss of quality of gerberas. Özellikle toplumumuza özgü atlasın bir an önce hazırlanması gerektiği sonucuna varıldı.Publication 1st and 2nd law characteristics in a micropipe: Integrated effects of surface roughness, heat flux and reynolds number(Taylor&Francis, 2009) Özalp, A. Alper; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 0000-0002-4976-9027; ABI-6888-2020; 6506131689A computational study of the integrated effects of surface roughness, heat flux, and Reynolds number on the 1st and 2nd law characteristics of laminar-transitional flow in a micropipe is presented. Analyses are carried by solving the variable fluid property continuity, Navier-Stokes, and energy equations for the surface roughness, heat flux, and Reynolds number ranges of 1-50 m, 5-100 W/m2, and 1-2000, respectively. Computations put forward that surface roughness not only accelerates transition to lower Reynolds number but also augments heat transfer rates, such that the transitional Reynolds numbers and intermittency values are evaluated as 1650, 575, and 450 and 0.132, 0.117, and 0.136 for the surface roughness cases of 1, 20, and 50 m, respectively. Thermocritical Reynolds numbers are identified by determining the viscous dissipation rates, which characterize the heating/cooling behavior and the related Reynolds number range. Surface roughness comes out to have no role on entropy generation at low Reynolds numbers; moreover, entropy generation is found to be inversely proportional with mean temperature variation, where the trends become almost asymptotic at the lower limit of the investigated Reynolds number range. Being independent of surface roughness, heat flux, and Reynolds number, radial irreversibility distribution ratio is determined to be negligible at the pipe centerline, indicating that the frictional entropy is minor and the major portion of the total entropy generation is thermal based.Publication 2D finite-element analysis of interlaminar flux density distribution at joints of zip-type unicore(Elsevier, 2006-09) Moses, Anthony; Erdem, Sezer; Derebaşı, Naim; Uludağ Üniversitesi.; 0000-0003-2546-0022; AAI-2254-2021; AAI-1248-2021; 13805689400; 11540936300Normal flux distribution along the rolling directions at joints of overlapped stacked electrical laminations is investigated to set up a flux distribution similar to that in the zip-type unicore. A 2D model of a C-core and three layers of overlapped laminations with joints with similar characterisitics to a zip-type unicore were formed and an FE analysis was carried out to solve the problem using a static magnetic analysis and unidirectional vector potential formulation. The results show that when the reluctance changes in the closed magnetic paths causes the flux deviates towards shorter magnetic paths moving to adjacent layers increasing the magnetic flux density. This redistribution causes the flux to transfer easier at joints in the unicore compared to other jointed cores.Publication 2D holodirected lead(II) bromide coordination polymers constructed of rigid and flexible ligands(Elsevier Science, 2009-04-01) Aslani, Alireza; Morsali, Ali; Büyükgüngör, Orhan; Yılmaz, Veysel Turan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Kimya Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-2849-3332; L-7238-2018; 7006269202Three new 2D Pb-II coordination polymers containing 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy), 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane (bpa) and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl) ethene (bpe) with bromide anions, [Pb(mu-4,4'-bipy)(mu-Br)(2)](n) (1), [Pb(mu-bpa)(mu-Br)(2)](n) (2) and [Pb(mu-bpe)(mu-Br)(2)](n) ( 3) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and their structures studied by X-ray crystallography. The thermal stability of compounds 1-3 was studied by thermal gravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses ( DTA). The single-crystal X-ray data shows that the Pb2+-ions have coordination numbers of six and contain the rarely holodirected geometries.Publication 2D Magnetic texture analysis of Co-Cu films(Walter de Gruyter Gmbh, 2017-05-01) Bayırlı, Mehmet; Karaağaç, Öznur; Koçkar, Hakan; Alper, Mursel; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Fizik Bölümü.; AAG-8795-2021; 7005719283The magnetic textures for the produced magnetic materials are important concepts in accordance with technical applications. Therefore, the aim of this article is to determine 2D magnetic textures of electrodeposited Co-Cu films by the measurement of hysteresis loops at the incremented angles. For that, Co-Cu films were deposited with different Co2+ in the electrolyte. In addition, the easy-axis orientation in the films from the squareness values of the angles, M-p(beta) obtained by the hysteresis loops have been numerically studied using the Fourier series analysis. The differences observed in the magnetic easy-axis distributions were attributed to changes of the incorporation of Co2+ in the films with the change of Co2+ in the electrolyte. The coefficients of Fourier series (A(0) and A(2n)) were also computed for 2D films. It is seen that a systematic and small decrease in A(0) and an obvious decrease in A(2n) (n = 1) were observed with increasing incorporated Co in the films. Results imply that interactions cause slightly demagnetization effect accordance with higher incorporation of Co in the films. Furthermore, the crystal structure of the Co-Cu films analysed by X-ray diffraction revealed that the films have dominantly face-centred cubic structure. Film contents analysed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and film morphologies observed by scanning electron microscope also support the magnetic texture analysis results found by numerical computation.Publication 30 years retrospective review of tuberculosis cases in a tuberculosis dispensary in Bursa/Nilufer, Turkey (1985-2014): Changes of epidemics(Mattioli 1885, 2016-10-23) Özgüç, Sedef; Yıldız, Timur; Pala, Kayıhan; Gerçek, Harika; Taş, Tuncay Aydın; Çakır, Rukiye; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Halk Sağlığı Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-0983-4904; 0000-0002-3816-4874; F-7816-2013; 6603159416; 36543842000; 57193114540; 56414706200Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the epidemiological and clinical aspects of patients who applied to the Bursa Nilufer Tuberculosis Dispensary by investigating the trends in epidemics over three decades. Method: In this retrospective observational study, the records of all tuberculosis cases (1630 patients) treated in the last 30 years (1985-2014) at the Bursa Nilufer Tuberculosis Dispensary were examined and statistically analyzed. Results: Males comprised 65.2% of the patients. The ages of the patients ranged from 1 to 87 years, and the mean age was 37.4 (95% CI: 36.6-38.2). Among the cases, 86.7% were new infections and 74.1% were pulmonary tuberculosis. In the last decade, the education level, the percentage of patients who had received a BCG vaccination, the proportion of women and active employees among them increased (p<0.05), while it decreased among men (p<0.05). Clinical symptoms accompanying TB such as weakness, anorexia, weight loss, and cough, decreased to a statistically significant degree (p<0.05). In the last decade, the mortality rate was 3.6% and increased compared with previous decades (p<0.05). Mortality was higher among patients who were elderly, male, did not have a BCG scar or had a chronic disease (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study adds information about the change of TB epidemics in Turkey in the last 30 years. Further studies are needed to determine the risk factors associated with tuberculosis mortality and to evaluate the effectiveness control programs of this disease.Publication A 4 year retrospective analysis of our patients with mushroom poisoning(Sage, 2013-03) Köksal, Özlem; Armaǧan, Erol; İnal, Taylan; Ayyıldız, Talat; Öner, Nuran; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Acil Tıp Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Gastroenteroloji Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0003-2271-5659; AAH-8846-2021; AAK-8332-2020; 23389880200; 6506464232; 55695563500; 6603155277; 55695552500Objective: This study presented the demographic, clinical and laboratory data for the patients who presented to our emergency department (ED) with mushroom poisoning. Methods: We retrospectively examined the data for adult patients with mushroom poisoning that presented to the ED of Uludag University, Faculty of Medicine between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2010. Results: A total of 53 patients were enrolled in the study. The mean age was 46.58 +/- 15.47. 52.8% of the patients were female, while 47.2% were male. These patients were typically admitted in the autumn. The most commonly seen symptoms were gastrointestinal such as nausea and vomiting. The time to symptom onset was <6 hours for 30.2% of the patients and >6 hours in 69.8% of the patients. While 73.5% of the patients received gastric lavage, activated charcoal and intravenous fluid therapy, 15.1% received penicillin, N-acetylcysteine and intravenous fluid therapy. For the remaining patients (11.4%) silibinin, dialysis and plasmapheresis were administered. While 35.8% of the patients were hospitalised, 64.2% were discharged from the ED. The median duration of stay in the ED was 6 hours (range: 1-27 hours); the median duration of stay among inpatients was 6 days (range: 1-36 days). Three of the hospitalised patients died, and two underwent hepatic transplantation. Conclusions: Mushroom poisoning remains an important issue that is encountered in rural areas during the rainy autumn season in our region. The condition may be fatal, but can be prevented by early and appropriate treatment.Publication 4-(N-hydroxyphenyl)retinamide can selectively induce apoptosis in human epidermoid carcinoma cells but not in normal dermal fibroblasts(Taylor & Francis, 2001) Wood, E. J.; Ulukaya, Engin; Kurt, Ayberk; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Biyokimya Anabilim Dalı.; K-5792-2018; 6602927353; 36615287100The retinoid 4-(N-hydroxyphenyl)retinamide (4HPR, fenretinide) has both growth inhibitory and apoptosis-inducing effects on a number of cancer cell lines in vitro and in vivo and has been entered into a number of oncological trials. However, little is known about its mechanism(s) of action or its effects on normal cells such as fibroblasts. In this study, the effects of fenretinide on both epidermoid carcinoma cells of vulva (cell line A431) and normal human dermal fibroblasts, both as monolayers and also grown in 3D cell culture systems, have been investigated. The 3D cell culture system contained normal human fibroblasts embedded in a type I collagen gel with the carcinoma cells seeded on top of the collagen gel, which mimics the epidermoid carcinoma. Fenretinide significantly inhibited the rate of DNA synthesis of carcinoma cells, while there was little effect on fibroblasts on monolayers, at 10(-6)-10(-5) M, which are clinically attainable does. Fenretinide at 5 x 10(-6) M induced apoptosis characterised by cell shrinkage, membrane blebbing, nuclear condensation and/or fragmentation, and cell detachment in carcinoma cells, but not fibroblasts from monolayers. Fenretinide also reduced the viability of carcinoma cells in the 3D cell culture system without affecting fibroblasts. These data show that fenretinide may preferentially induce apoptosis in epidermoid carcinoma cells.Publication 4-Transitivity and 6-figures in some Moufang-Klingenberg planes(Springer, 2006-10-31) Çelik, Basri; Akpınar, Atilla; Çiftçi, Süleyman; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Matematik Bölümü.; 0000-0001-7234-8063; 0000-0002-7612-2448; AAE-2600-2019; ABB-9790-2020; 23026643900; 23026537500; 26635052900In this paper, the Moufang-Klingenberg plane over a local alternative ring R of dual numbers is studied. It is shown that its collineation group is transitive on quadrangles. It is therefore shown that the coordinatization of these Moufang-Klingenberg planes is independent of the choice of the coordinatization quadrangle. Also, the concept of 6-figures is extended to these Moufang-Klingenberg planes and it is shown that any 6-figure corresponds to only one inversible m epsilon R.Publication 5′ MLL gene deletion in a case with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia(Oxford University, 2010-02) Gülten, Tuna; Yakut, Tahsin; Güneş, Adalet Meral; Demirkaya, Metin; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Tıbbi Genetik Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Çocuk Sağlığı ve Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı.; 6505944216; 6602802424; 24072843300; 24331130000Myeloid/lymphoid leukemia (MLL) gene rearrangements are high risk cytogenetic characteristics of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Translocations of this gene are well defined, and their impact on the patient's prognosis is well known, but deletions of the same region are rare, and little is known about their prognostic significance and the significance of their accompanying translocations. Here we present a case of childhood ALL with a deletion of the 5' region of the MILL gene detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis, This result also confirmed the sensitivity and efficiency of FISH analysis.Publication 5,5-diethylbarbiturate complexes of silver with 2,2 '-bipyridine and 3-(2-pyridyl)propanol: Syntheses, crystal structures, spectroscopic, thermal and antimicrobial activity studies(Walter de Gruyter Gmbh, 2008-02) Karakaya, Haydar; Yılmaz, Fatih; Büyükgüngör, Orhan; Yılmaz, Veysel Turan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Kimya Bölümü.; 0000-0002-2849-3332; L-7238-2018; 7006269202Two silver 5,5-diethylbarbiturate (barb) complexes with 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and 3-(2-pyridyl) propanol (pypr), [Ag(barb)(bpy)] (1) and [Ag(barb)(pypr)] (2), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Both complexes crystallize in the triclinic space group P (1) over bar with Z = 2. The barb ligand in 1 is N-coordinated and the bpy ligand acts as a bichelating ligand leading to an AgN3 tricoordination. Crystals of 1 feature a three-dimensional network based on N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonding, pi(bpy)center dot center dot center dot pi(bpy), C-H center dot center dot center dot pi(bpy) and pi(bpy)-Ag interactions. In 2, the pypr and barb ligands behave as monodentate ligands through their N atoms, forming a distorted linear AgN2 coordination. Molecules of 2 are doubly bridged by N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds and further connected via O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds and aromatic pi(pypr)center dot center dot center dot pi(pypr) stacking interactions into a supramolecular network. Both complexes exhibit similar thermal decomposition behavior in air. The first stage corresponds to removal of the co-ligands such as bpy or pypr while the degradation of the barb moiety occurs at higher temperatures to give Ag2O. Like the barb, bpy and pypr ligands, 2 does not show any significant antimicrobial activity, but 1 is active against bacteria and fungi.Publication 5,5-Diethylbarbiturato complexes of copper(II) with (2-aminoethyl)piperidine, -pyrrolidine, and -morpholine: Syntheses, crystal structures, spectroscopic, and thermal properties(Taylor & Francis, 2009) Büyükgüngor, Orhan; Aksoy, Mehmet Suat; Yılmaz, Veysel Turan; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Kimya Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-2849-3332; L-7238-2018; 8986297500; 7006269202Three new complexes, [Cu(barb)2(aepip)] center dot 0.5H2O (1), [Cu(barb)2(aepyrd)] (2), and [Cu(barb)2(aemrph)] (3), have been synthesized by reaction of 5,5-diethlybarbiturate anion (barb) with copper(II) in the presence of (2-aminoethyl)piperidine (aepip), -pyrrolidine (aepyrd), and -morpholine (aemrph). All complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic (IR and UV/Vis), thermal (DTA-TGA), and magnetic susceptibility measurements. X-ray single crystal diffraction shows that 1 and 2 are discrete mononuclear species, in which copper(II) is coordinated by two bidentate barb ligands and a chelating aepip or aepyrd, forming a square-pyramidal coordination geometry. Complexes 1 and 2 show unequal coordination of barb, one N-coordinate, and one bidentate. Complex 3 is also mononuclear, but copper(II) is square-planar with two N-coordinated barb and one bidentate aemorph. Molecules of 1-3 are bridged by strong hydrogen bonds to generate 1-D or 2-D supramolecular networks. Spectral and thermal data for 1-3 are in agreement with crystal structures.Publication 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose 2,6-bisphosphatase-3 is required for transforming growth factor β1-enhanced invasion of Panc1 cells in vitro(Elsevier, 2017-01-31) Chesney, Jason A.; Yalçın, Abdullah; Solakoğlu, Tuğba H.; Özcan, Selahattin C.; Güzel, Saime; Peker, Sabire; Çelikler, Serap; Balaban, Başak D.; Sevinç, Elif; Gürpınar, Yunus; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Veteriner Fakültesi/Biyokimya Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Veteriner Fakültesi/Histoloji ve Embriyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Biyoloji Bölümü.; 0000-0001-8519-8375; 0000-0003-1733-4288; 0000-0003-0796-5000; 0000-0002-4177-3478; 0000-0002-7698-0872; ABI-4164-2020; AAA-6938-2022; AAH-4275-2021; AAH-2767-2021; 36857831000; 57193156208; 22835997800; 55460886200; 55109615900; 8234554800; 6604052452; 56508326500; 57193160752Transforming growth factor [31 (TGF beta 1) is a well -established inducer of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) that is essential for the acquisition of malignant properties, such as invasion, in tumor cells. Although recent studies suggest that the EMT in tumor cells is associated with reprogramming of energy metabolism and TGF beta 1 has been shown to stimulate glycolysis in multiple primary cell lines, little is known about TGF beta l 's effect on glycolysis and glycolytic regulators in transformed cells. Given the known regulatory role of 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose 2,6-bisphosphatase-3 (PFKFB3) in glycolysis and association of glycolytic activity with malignant features such as invasion, we sought to investigate whether TGF beta 1 regulates PFKFB3 expression and if PFKFB3 is involved in the TGF beta l -mediated increase in the invasive ability of the Panc1 cell cline a well -established model of TGF beta 1 -initiated EMT. Herein we demonstrate that TGF beta 1 induces PFKFB3 expression and stimulates glycolysis in Panci cells. We also show that s1RNA silencing of PFKFB3 prevents the stimulation of glycolysis and in vitro invasive ability of Panci cells by TGF beta 1. Furthermore, PFKFB3 silencing suppresses the TGFfil -mediated induction of the Snail protein, suggesting that PFKFB3 is required for the regulation of Snail expression by TGFfil. Taken together, our study identifies PFKFB3 as a key TGF beta 1 effector protein that mediates TGF beta 1's effect on Snail expression, invasion, and glycolysis.Publication A comparative study of energy consumption and recovery of autonomous fuel-cell hydrogen-electric vehicles using different powertrains based on regenerative braking and electronic stability control system(MPDI, 2021-03) Yıldız, Ahmet; Özel, Mert Ali; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Fakültesi/Makina Mühendisliği.; 0000-0001-5434-4368; 0000-0003-2887-3359; T-8076-2018; AAP-3077-2021; 58070251000; 57222521121Today, with the increasing transition to electric vehicles (EVs), the design of highly energy-efficient vehicle architectures has taken precedence for many car manufacturers. To this end, the energy consumption and recovery rates of different powertrain vehicle architectures need to be investigated comprehensively. In this study, six different powertrain architectures-four independent in-wheel motors with regenerative electronic stability control (RESC) and without an RESC, one-stage gear (1G) transmission, two-stage gear (2G) transmission, continuously variable transmission (CVT) and downsized electric motor with CVT-were mathematically modeled and analyzed under real road conditions using nonlinear models of an autonomous hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle (HFCEV). The aims of this paper were twofold: first, to compare the energy consumption performance of powertrain architectures by analyzing the effects of the regenerative electronic stability control (RESC) system, and secondly, to investigate the usability of a downsized electrical motor for an HFCEV. For this purpose, all the numerical simulations were conducted for the well-known FTP75 and NEDC urban drive cycles. The obtained results demonstrate that the minimum energy consumption can be achieved by a 2G-based powertrain using the same motor; however, when an RESC system is used, the energy recovery/consumption rate can be increased. Moreover, the results of the article show that it is possible to use a downsized electric motor due to the CVT, and this powertrain significantly reduces the energy consumption of the HFCEV as compared to all the other systems. The results of this paper present highly significant implications for automotive manufacturers for designing and developing a cleaner electrical vehicle energy consumption and recovery system.Publication A global multicenter study on reference values: 2. Exploration of sources of variation across the countries(Elsevier, 2017-04) Ichihara, Kiyoshi; Barth, Julian H; Klee, George; Shimizu, Yoshihisa; Xia, Liangyu; Hoffmann, Mariza; Shah, Swarup; Matsha, Tandi; Wassung, Janette; Smit, Francois; Ruzhanskaya, Anna; Straseski, Joely; Bustos, Daniel N; Kimura, Shogo; Takahashi, Aki; Özarda, Yeşim; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Tıbbi Biyokimya Anabilim Dalı.; AAL-8873-2021; 35741320500Objectives: The intent of this study, based on a global multicenter study of reference values (RVs) for serum analytes was to explore biological sources of variation (SVs) of the RVs among 12 countries around the world. Methods: As described in the first part of this paper, RVs of 50 major serum analytes from 13,396 healthy individuals living in 12 countries were obtained. Analyzed in this study were 23 clinical chemistry analytes and 8 analytes measured by immunoturbidimetry. Multiple regression analysis was performed for each gender, country by country, analyte by analyte, by setting four major SVs (age, BMI, and levels of drinking and smoking) as a fixed set of explanatory variables. For analytes with skewed distributions, log-transformation was applied. The association of each source of variation with RVs was expressed as the partial correlation coefficient (rp). Results: Obvious gender and age-related changes in the RVs were observed in many analytes, almost consistently between countries. Compilation of age-related variations of RVs after adjusting for between-country differences revealed peculiar patterns specific to each analyte. Judged from the rp, BMI related changes were observed for many nutritional and inflammatory markers in almost all countries. However, the slope of linear regression of BMI vs. RV differed greatly among countries for some analytes. Alcohol and smoking-related changes were observed less conspicuously in a limited number of analytes. Conclusion: The features of sex, age, alcohol, and smoking-related changes in RVs of the analytes were largely comparable worldwide. The finding of differences in BMI-related changes among countries in some analytes is quite relevant to understanding ethnic differences in susceptibility to nutritionally related diseases.Publication A new monoid construction under crossed products(Springer, 2013-12) Emin, Ahmet; Ateş, Firat; İkikardeş, Sebahattin; Cangül, İsmail Naci; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen-Edebiyat Fakültesi/Matematik Bölümü.; 57189022403In this paper we define a new monoid construction under crossed products for given monoids. Finally, we give the necessary and sufficient conditions for the regularity of it.Publication A numerical study of heat and mass transfer in falling film absorber(Pergamon-Elsevier Science, 1999) Yiǧit, Abdulvahap; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Mühendislik Mimarlık Fakültesi/Makine Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 7006225124This paper describes a model of the absorption process in a falling film Lithium Bromide-Water absorber. Absorption of a gas or vapor into a laminar falling film on the surface of a vertical tube is taken into account. Necessary boundary conditions are provided to solve simultaneous parabolic partial-differential equation which are obtained by diffusion and energy equations characterizing absorption process. To solve these partial differential equations Crank-Nichelson Method was used. Solutions for temperature and concentration distributions were obtained by applying these equations in discretized flow field. Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are calculated for absorber. The coolant-side heat transfer coefficient may be calculated using standard correlations. The effect of varying coolant flow rate, solution flow rate and coolant temperature are also studied. Results which are found out from the model are compared with experimental data and analytical results. Agreement is found to be good.Publication A species of Nilotonia Thor, 1905 (Acari, Hydrachnidia, Anisitsiellidae) new for the Turkish fauna(Scientific and Technological Research Council Turkey, 2008) Boyacı, Yunus Ömer; Özkan, Muhlis; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Eğitim Fakültesi; JHK-0887-2023; 7103273174Nilotonia (Manotonia) tegulata (Viets 1951), known previously from Africa and Italy, is new for the Turkish fauna. The morphological features are compared with similar species, and an identification key for subgenera of the genus Nilotonia is given. The subgenus Manotonia is also reported for the first time from Turkey.Publication A traditional Turkish fermented cereal food: Tarhana(Taylor & Francis, 2007) Özdemir, Sibel; Göçmen, Duygu; Kumral, A. Yıldırım; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Gıda Mühendisliği Bölümü.; 18038353400; 55967047900; 16039935800Tarhana has a long history. According to historical records, it was first produced by Turkish people in Middle Asia and afterwards it spread out to different parts of the world. It is a fermented cereal-based food and can be simply defined as a mixture of yoghurt, cereal flours, yeast, different vegetables, herbs, and spices. After the inixing process, tarhana dough is fermented for 1 to 5 days and immediately dried. Both lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and yeast fermentations occur simultaneously, during tarhana production. Therefore, tarhana has sour and acidic taste with yeast flavour as well. It is sun-dried at the home-made level or oven-dried of the commercial level. Several types of tarhana can be classified depending upon processing method or raw materials used. Low moisture (6-10%), low pH (3.5-5.0), and components (organic acids, bacteriosin, etc.) formed in fermentation have bacteriostatic effect on pathogens and spoilage microorganisms during long term storage (1-2 years) and enhance shelf life. Since tarhana is a good source of B vitamins, minerals, organic acids, and free amino acids, and since it is a product of LAB and yeast fermentation, it may be considered a junctional and probiotic food.
