Publication Effects of lighting schedule and ascorbic acid on performance and tibiotarsus bone characteristics in broilers(TÜBİTAK, 2009) Yılmaz, Bestami; Yıldız, Hüseyin; Petek, Metin; Sönmez, Gürsel; Arıcan, İlker; Veteriner Fakültesi; Patoloji Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0001-6342-0094; AAA-1366-2021; AAP-7233-2020; AAG-7518-2021; 35605229000; 7004448692; 55167435000; 14055524200This study was conducted to determine the effects of 2 lighting programs (continuous: 24 h light: 0 h dark; intermittent: 12 h daylight followed by 3 cycles of 1 h light, and then 3 h dark during the night) and 3 ascorbic acid supplementations (0, 200, and 400 mg/L added to water) on broiler performance, bone characteristics, and the incidence of tibial dyschondroplasia. One-day-old male commercial (Ross PM(3)) broiler chicks (600) were divided into 6 treatment groups (2 x 3) with random replicates (4 replicates per treatment). At the end of 6 weeks data revealed that the lighting program, which was one of the main factors tested, affected the feed conversion ratio and live weight gain (P < 0.05), while ascorbic acid (the other main factor) and the interactions of both factors did not significantly influence broiler performance characteristics. Length and weight of the tibiotarsus were positively affected by the use of intermittent lighting, whereas ascorbic acid had a positive effect only on the weight of the bone. Continuous lighting improved cortical thickness of the tibiotarsus (P < 0.01) and decreased the incidence of tibial dyschondroplasia insignificantly. There was not a lighting x supplemental ascorbic acid interaction for tibial dyschondroplasia. The results of the present study suggest that use of intermittent lighting and supplementation of ascorbic acid (200 mg/L) can efficiently prevent leg problems, and increase bone strength and broiler performance.Publication A geometric modeling of dog intestine(TÜBİTAK, 2006) Yıldız, Hüseyin; Arslan, Kadri; Coşkun, İhsaniye; Yıldız, Bahri; Tıp Fakültesi; Matematik Bölümü; 0000-0002-1440-7050; 0000-0001-5861-0184; 0000-0001-6484-7153; AAH-5390-2021; AAA-1366-2021; AAG-8775-2021; 35605229000; 6603079141; 57190213782; 7005500759In computer-assisted surgical applications, reconstruction of 3-D morphological peculiarities are required. Herein, we present a geometric modeling of the separate intestinal sections of the canine. The intestine of the dog was considered a tubular shape along a special curve. Seven male Turkish shepherd dogs were used for the modeling study. The length (cm) and diameter (mm) of the intestines were measured with digital calipers and formulated. These models were then compared to their original photographs. It was concluded that the geometric modeling and experimental work were consistent. These kinds of organ modeling techniques will enable medical lecturers to show 3-D figures to their students.Publication Investigation of morphological and biomechanical properties of the scapula for shoulder joint(Galenos Publishing House, 2023-09) Cini, Nilgün Tuncel; Sak, Nazan Güner; Babacan, Serdar; Arı, İlknur; ARI, İLKNUR; Sak, Nazan Güner; Tıp Fakültesi; Anatomi Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0002-7410-7738; ELI-9107-2022; HNN-1671-2023Objective: The glenopolar angle is a helpful criterion for recommending operative treatment. This study aims to determine the morphometric features of the scapula and provide essential information that supplies scapular biomechanics to produce a formula. Methods: The study was carried out on 34 dry scapulae in the laboratory of the Anatomy Department of the Faculty of Medicine, Bursa Uludag University. We used calipers for the linear measurements and the ImageJ program for the area and angle parameters. A total of 23 parameters were evaluated in the study. Statistical analyzes were performed using SPSS 22.0 software. Results: According to the results of the correlation analysis, the highest correlation value of (R=0.957) was found to be the distance between the superior angle (angulus superior)-top of the glenoid plane and the inferior angle (angulus inferior)-the top of the glenoid plane. To estimate the glenopolar angle, we applied linear regression analysis and developed the following formula: Glenopolar angle =115.589 - (6.401 x the distance between the coracoid process and the top of the glenoid cavity) - (0.368 x angle between the glenoid plane and the lateral edge of the scapula extending towards the endpoint of the glenoid plane) (Adjusted R2=0.667).Conclusions: Glenopolar angle can provide information about the fracture risk of the glenoid cavity and allows orthopedic surgeons to make quick decisions about the risk in the region. We believe that the study will provide a different perspective on designing different products in industrial designs for shoulder joints, especially in implantations.Publication Investigation of the dose-dependency of citicoline effects on nerve regeneration and functional recovery in a rat model of sciatic nerve injury(Türk Nöroloji Derneği, 2014-01) Kaplan, Tolga; Kafa, İlker Mustafa; Cansev, Mehmet; Bekar, Ahmet; Karlı, Necdet; Taşkapılıoğlu, Mevlüt Özgür; Kanar, Fulya; Tıp Fakültesi; Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0001-5472-9065; AAW-5254-2020; AAG-7125-2021; M-9071-2019; 7006761497; 8450193200; 8872816100; 6603677218; 6506587942; 25936798300; 56037464100AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate the dose dependence of citicoline's previously-reported effects on recovery of peripheral nerve injury. MATERIAL and METHODS: Right sciatic nerves of sixty adult female Wistar Albino rats were incised and primary anastomosis was performed. Rats were then divided into four groups: Control group received 2 ml of saline intraperitoneally, while rats in C-300, C-600 and C-900 groups received 300 mu mol/kg, 600 mu mol/kg and 900 mu mol/kg citicoline dissolved in 2 ml saline, respectively. Rats were tested for sciatic functional index (SFI) on the 4th, 8th and 12th weeks and electrophysiological recordings were obtained on the 12th week. Rats were then sacrificed to investigate nerve adhesions and perform histomorphological examinations. RESULTS:Our results showed that rats in C-600 and C-900 groups had significantly lesser neural adhesion and greater SFI and electrophysiological score than those in the Control and C-300 groups (p<0.05). Mean density and total number of functionally myelinated axons were significantly increased in C-900 group, while perineural scar tissue formation was reduced in all citicoline-treated groups. CONCLUSION: We conclude that citicoline exhibits dose-dependent effects on axonal regeneration and recovery without scar formation in a rat model of peripheral nerve incision and primary anastomosis.Publication Is standardization of nerve graft groups necessary for experimental studies?(Ortadoğu Yayıncılık, 2011-09-06) Özbek, Serhat; Özyurtlu, Mustafa; Kurt, Mustafa Ayberk; Noyan, Behzat; Tıp Fakültesi; Anatomi Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0003-3368-8123; AAH-5441-2021; AAR-4341-2020; 7005245657; 39962152600; 35603735000; 6506333172Objective: Experimental studies regarding nerve regeneration use a number of methods to compose a nerve graft group for making comparisons among various peripheral nerve repair techniques. It is unclear that whether these methods used interchangeably yield similar functional, physiological and morphological results or not. The aim of this study is to demonstrate functional and morphological results of these diverse nerve grafting techniques, thereby a possible necessity of standardization. Material and Methods: Thirty-two adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into four groups and used. A nerve defect measuring 1.5 cm was created in the sciatic nerve of the rat, and in group one, split ends of the defect were buried into neighbouring muscles (nerve defect group). In groups two and three, resected nerve segment was sutured to its own place in its original direction (orthotopic graft group) or after reversing it 180 degrees (inverted graft group). In group four, a sural nerve graft taken from the same leg was used to bridge the defect (distant graft group). Functional, electrophysiological and histometric results obtained at 21st week were compared among the groups in order to see whether they were similar or not. Results. There were significant differences among the groups. Regarding functional results, orthotopic and inverted graft groups gave superior results compared to nerve defect and distant graft groups. Most importantly, it is clear that different nerve grafting techniques can not be used interchangeably. Conclusion: The results of the present study suggest that the use of a constant method in order to compose a nerve graft group in experimental studies may be convenient to avoid contradictory results among the researches. In other words, standardization of nerve grafting methods in experimental studies is mandatory.Publication Bir köpekte anormal akciğer loplanması ve eklenik fissura’lar(Kafkas Üniversitesi, 2011) Yılmaz, Bestami; Yılmaz, Rahşan; Serbest, Ayşe; Arıcan, İlker; Yıldız, Hüseyin; Veterinerlik Fakültesi; Anatomi Ana Bilim Dalı; AAH-4081-2021; AAG-7518-2021; AAA-1366-2021; 35605229000; 54786039100; 14055524200Bu çalışmada, anatomi uygulamalarında kullanılan 3 yaşında, erkek bir Kangal köpeği kullanılmıştır. In the present study, it was aimed to characterize the topographical, anatomical and immunohistological features of interdigital sinus in Kivircik sheep. The interdigital sinuses were dissected from 50 forefeet of female Kivircik sheep which were slaughtered in the slaughterhouse. The shape of sinus resembled a pipe and was located between the proximal and distal interphalangeal joints of two digits. The wall of interdigital sinus had three layers as epidermis, dermis and fibrous capsule. Epidermis consisted of a stratified squamous keratinized epithelium. Sebaceous glands, hair follicles, arrector pili muscles, and apocrine sweat glands were in the dermis. Furthermore, there were vessels and adipose tissue in the fibrous capsule. There was immunohistochemical reaction for estrogen receptor expressed in epidermis, apocrin sweat glands and sebaceous glands of interdigital sinus. In conclusion, our results about the topographical, anatomical and immunohistological features of interdigital sinus are very important to understand sexual behavior and reproductive process of sheep, and to make a new approach for its surgery. Furthermore, this study is the first to report the interdigital sinus of Kivircik sheep immunohistochemically.Publication Nerves innervating articular capsule of elbow joints in Turkish shepherd dogs (karabaş-kangal), curly sheep and native hair goats: An anatomic study(Kafkas Üniversitesi, 2009) Yılmaz, Bestami; Bahadır, Ali; Veteriner Fakültesi; Anatomi Ana Bilim Dalı; AAH-4187-2021; 6701783649This study was performed to map the sensible nerves (n.) innervating articular capsule of elbow joints in Turkish shepherd dog (Karabash-Kangal), curly sheep (ovis aries) and native hair goat (capra hircus) and to demonstrate the interspecies variations. Five adult Turkish shepherd dogs, curly sheeps and native hair goats each of different genders were used. Rami articulares of the nerves innervating articular capsule of elbow joints were dissected after routine cadaver preparation methods. Macroscopic and subgross examination revealed that articular capsule of elbow joints was innervated by radial, median, ulnar and musculocutaneous nerves. The number and directions of branches of the nerves ending at articular capsule were as follows: one craniolateral in all species for radial nerve; one cranial in Turkish shepherd dog and one craniomedial in curly sheep and native hair goat for median nerve; one medial in Turkish shepherd dog and one caudomedial in curly sheep and native hair goat for ulnar nerve; and two cranial in Turkish shepherd dog and one cranial in curly sheep and native hair goat for musculocutaneus nerve. As a conclusion, we observed that the number of rami articulares innervating articular capsule was higher in Turkish shepherd dog and native hair goat than in curly sheep. This difference is likely the result of the more athletic body structure and the capacity to move faster of these species than the curly sheep.Publication Protective effect of CDP-choline on hypotension and tissue injury in septic shock model(Ankara Üniversitesi, 2016-07-20) Sevim, Çiğdem; Altınbaş, Burçin; Yalçın, Murat; İnan, Sevda; Özyiğit, Musa Özgür; Arıcan, İlker; Yılmaz, Mustafa Sertaç; Tıp Fakültesi; Fizyoloji Ana Bilim Dalı; 0000-0001-8138-5851; 0000-0001-9496-1475; 0000-0002-5600-8162; E-3364-2018; AAH-1571-2021; AAG-7518-2021; AAH-2873-2021; AAR-6478-2021; AAG-6956-2021; 57193394164; 55356919300; 57192959734; 56320836200; 6507338060; 14055524200; 8895544100CDP-choline is an endogen molecule and also a drug that is used in several trauma and ischemic conditions. It has been demonstrated that it improves the hemodynamic parameters in different shock models and prevents tissue damage in rats. The current study tested the effect of CDP-choline on hypotension, inflammation and tissue injury induced by septic shock model in rats. Twenty-four adult, male Spraque-Dawley rats, weighing 250-300 g were used. Septic shock was induced by cecal ligation-incision (CLI). CDP-choline (100 mg/kg) injected intravenously (i.v.) at the 180th minute of the experiment. The animals were observed for 180 minutes after the injection, then blood and tissue samples were obtained for cytokine measurements and histological examinations, respectively. The cecal ligation-incision decreased arterial pressure and increased heart rate. Intravenous injection of CDP-choline reversed hypotension and increased arterial pressure up to control levels within the first 60 minutes without changing the increase in heart rate. The effect lasted for 3 hours. CDP-choline attenuated the increases in TNF-alpha, IL-1 beta and IL-6 levels in septic shock. Moreover, the drug exerted protective effects for the injury induced by septic shock in lungs, liver and kidney tissues; whereas this effect was not present on spleen. In conclusion, the present data suggested that intravenous CDP-choline administration can improve the deteriorations in hemodynamic and inflammatory parameters and can prevent the tissue injury in septic shock-induced by CLI in rats.Publication Secundum atrial septal defect in a one-year-old Kangal dog(TÜBİTAK, 2006) Özyiğit, Gülsüm; Arıcan, İlker; Özyiğit, M. This is the first case of a secundum ASD reported in an adult Kangal dog.Publication Yemin fiziksel yapısı ile yemleme şeklinin broylerlerde muskuler mide üzerindeki etkisi(TÜBİTAK, 2001) Yıldız, Bahri; Yıldız, Hüseyin; Bahadır, Ali; Veteriner Fakültesi; Anatomi Ana Bilim Dalı; AAH-4187-2021; AAA-1366-2021; 7005500759; 35605229000; 6701783649The effects of physical texture of feed and feeding regimes in broiler's gizzards were observed. Firstly, chicks were divided into three groups. The chicks in groups A, B and C were fed on mash, mash + pellet and crumble + pellet respectively. These groups were exposed to ad libitum and meal feeding, and grit was added to this feed. On day fourty-two, the chicks were sacrificed and the characteristics of the gizzard were observed. The impact of adding grit to the broiler rations on the weight and volume of the gizzard of broiler having ad-libitum rations was investigated. Statistically significant differences were not found in terms of the weight and the volume of the gizzard of the broilers between the broiler groups which had and did not have grits in their rations. The same statistical result was found in the broilers which were fed on meal. However, when the grit was not added to the rations, it was established that there were statistically significant differences between the groups (P < 0.005). With different feeding regimes and the addition of grit to rations, it was seen that there were significant differences in the weight of the gizzard between the groups. Furthermore, it was established that with the grit and physiological texture of the feed ration, the mucoza of the gizzard thickened.
