Item Brain-derived neurotrophic factor, stress and depression: A minireview(Pergamon-Elsevier Science, 2009-03-30) Ozan, Erol; Gönül, Ali Saffet; Kılıç, Ertuğrul; Yuluğ, Burak; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi.; O-8322-2016; 6507583384Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a member of the nerve growth factor family, and is widely expressed in the adult mammalian brain. Besides its well known neuroprotective activity after traumatic brain injury the evidences regarding its activity dependent release by the pathophysiology of major depression are rapidly replicating. Considering the data that stress plays an important role by the development of depression which is characterized with prominent hippocampal cell death, as well as the well known neuroprotective effects of BDNF, we aimed to investigate the link between the BDNF, stress and depression. Thus we prepared a minireview in order to evaluate the neuroprotective role of BDNF by psychiatric disorders which are characterized with prominent neuronal cell death.Item Neurometabolic correlations of donepezil and rivastigmine in dementia patients: A different neuroprotective effect(Amer Psychiatric Publishing, 2009) Yuluğ, Burak; Parlayan, Ebru; Bakar, Mustafa; Gümüştaş, Oğuzhan Güven; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Nöroloji Anabilim Dalı.; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı.; 40262210100; 26643051200; 9237715700Item Olanzapine attenuates brain damage after focal cerebral ischemia in vivo(Pergamon - Elsevier Science, 2006-12-11) Yıldız, Ayşegül; Hüdaoğlu, Orkide; Cam, Ertuğrul; Schaebitz, Wolf Ruediger; Yuluğ, Burak; Kılıç, Erdinç; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi/Nöroloji Anabilim Dalı.; 6507583384; 15062811500Atypical antipsychotic drugs are widely used in the treatment of schizophrenia. These agents are discovered to have some additional beneficial effects beyond their effectiveness as antipsychotic drugs. Among these initially unexpected effects are their potential effects as mood stabilizers in bipolar disorder and their efficacy in improving long-term outcome in schizophrenia. These effects recently raised the question whether these drugs may also have some neuroprotective effect in the brain. To examine this matter, in this study we evaluated the neuroprotective effect of olanzapine after permanent focal cerebral ischemia. Anaesthetized male C57BL/6j mice were submitted to permanent thread occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA). Olanzapine (0.1 and 1 mg/kg) or vehicle was applied intraperitoneally just after permanent ischemia. Twenty-four hours after permanent ischemia, brain injury was evaluated by triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining (TTC). Olanzapine (0.1 and 1 mg/kg) showed significant neuroprotection after permanent focal cerebral ischemia.Item The neuroprotective effect of olanzapine(Amer Psychiatric Publishing, 2008) Ozan, Erol; Yuluğ, Burak; Bakar, Mustafa; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Nöroloji Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-9704-6173; O-8322-2016; AAD-3930-2022; 6507583384; 26643051200Item Topiramate improves glucose metabolism in choreatic and depressive patient: PET findings(Amer Psychiatric Publishing, 2007-06) Karapolat, İnanç; Güzel, Orkide; Schäbitz, Wolf Rüdiger; Yuluğ, Burak; Bakar, Mustafa; Uludağ Üniversitesi/Tıp Fakültesi/Nöroloji Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0002-9704-6173; O-8322-2016; 6507583384; 26643051200
