Item Effect of egg weight on eggshell thickness, pore density and chick quality in broiler breeder flock(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2018-07-29) Sabah, Saliha; Şahan, Ümran; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Zootekni Bölümü.; 0000-0003-4577-8054; 0000-0002-4912-0551The objective of this research was to investigate the effect of egg weight on eggshell thickness, pore density and chick quality in broiler breeder flock. Additionally the correlations between the studied characteristics were calculated. Hatching eggs were collected from 40 wk old Ross 308 broiler breeder flock. The eggs were selected, weighed and numbered individually in light (54.71-58.88 g) and medium (58.24-60.62g) weighed egg groups. Eggs were incubated at 37.5°C and 55% RH in an incubator for 18 days. On 18th day eggs were individually weighed to calculate the egg mass loss. Then eggs were incubated at 37.0°C and 60% RH in a hatcher until hatch. At hatch chicks were weighed individually and chick length was measured. Additionally egg shell thickness and pore density was determined. Egg weight loss was found non-significant in both light and medium weighed egg groups (P>0.05). Egg weight had significant effect on eggshell thickness (P<0.05). Eggshell thickness was found higher in light weighed eggs than in medium weighed eggs (P <0.05) whereas, pore density was determined higher in medium weighed eggs (P<0.01). At hatch chick weight increased with the increased egg weight (P <0.05) while as chick length was not affected by egg weight. A significant correlations was observed between initial egg weight and average eggshell thickness (r= 0.551), chick weight (r=0.615), and also between average eggshell thickness and chick weight (r=0.484) in medium weighed eggs (P<0.05).Publication Eggshell water vapor conductance and shell structural characteristics of broiler breeder in different flock ages(Galenos Publ House, 2020-01-01) Sözcü, Arda; Sabah, Saliha; Şahan, Ümran; ŞAHAN, ÜMRAN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi; 0000-0003-4577-8054; AAH-2966-2021The aim of the study was to investigate eggshell traits; including eggshell water vapor conductance, eggshell thickness, pore density, egg weight loss as well as eggshell surface area and volume in 28 and 40 week-old broiler breeders. Furthermore, the phenotypic correlations among the eggshell characteristics were determined. The eggs were ranged from 54.41 g to 60.78 g and 54.71 g to 60.62 g in 28 and 40 wk-old age groups, respectively. All eggs were weighed and numbered before setting and were monitored individually until the end of the incubation. Mean eggshell water vapor conductance (G) value was 11.00 +/- 1.01 mg H2O day(-1) torr(-1) in 28 wk-old flock and 11.99 +/- 1.28 mg H2O day(-1) torr(-1) in 40 wk-old flock respectively (P<0.05). The mean value of shell thickness and pore density mean along with the two regions (broad end and equator) were higher and significant in 28 wk-old flock (P<0.01). Egg weight loss was not found to be significant. Surface area was higher in 40 wk-old flock while as volume was higher in 28 wk-old flocks (P<0.01). There was no correlation between eggshell thickness and pore density. Both eggshell thickness and pore density were having significant positive correlation along with three eggshell regions in each flock ages (P<0.01).Item Farklı seviyelerde yapılan tek ve çift defa horoz değişiminin broiler damızlık sürüsünde üreme performansı, bazı vücut konfor ve kan parametreleri üzerine etkisi(Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi, 2022-07-04) Sabah, Saliha; Dikmen, Bilgehan Yılmaz; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü/Zootekni Anabilim Dalı.; 0000-0003-4577-8054Bu çalışmada, aynı kümeste bulunan aynı yaştaki horozlarla farklı seviyelerde yapılan tek ve çift defa horoz değişiminin broiler damızlık sürüsünde üreme performansı, bazı vücut konfor ve kan parametreleri üzerine etkisinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada tek defa horoz değişimi yapılan grupta horoz değişim oranının kan eozinofil ve bazofil düzeyine etkisi bulunurken (P<0.05), çift defa grubunda değişim oranı ve tipinin etkisi önemsiz bulunmuştur (P>0.05).Publication Impact of different ratios of single and double interspiking on reproductive performance, some body welfare, and blood parameters of broiler breeders(Springer, 2023-02-01) Sabah, Saliha; Yılmaz Dikmen, Bilgehan; Sabah, Saliha; YILMAZ DİKMEN, BİLGEHAN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Zootekni Bölümü; 0000-0003-4577-8054; 0000-0002-4397-5428; G-3725-2017; FWU-6336-2022The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different levels of single and double interspiking on reproductive performance, some body welfare, and blood parameters of broiler breeder flock. The study was carried out on a total of 3840 female and 384 male (with average weight 4706.07 & PLUSMN; 307.9 g) Ross 308 broiler breeders having age between 28 to 59 weeks in a broiler breeder house (40 & DEG;13 & PRIME;16.3 & DPRIME;N, 28 degrees 48'19.8 "E) of a private commercial poultry company. A single interspiking was applied at the age of 45 weeks, and a double interspiking was applied at the age of 53 weeks with the ratio 75, 50, and 25% of the males in the trial groups were changed. The age was affected fertility ratio, hatchability of total eggs, and hatchability of fertile eggs in the single and double interspiking groups (P < 0.0001). While the spiking ratio was affected hatchability of fertile eggs in the single interspiking group (P < 0.0001), it was affected the fertility ratio, hatchability of fertile eggs in the double interspiking group (P = 0.015 and P = 0.024). The spiking type was affected fertility ratio and hatchability of total eggs (P = 0.002 and P = 0.001). The age and spiking ratio interaction was affected fertility ratio, hatchability of total eggs, and hatchability of fertile eggs in the single (P < 0.0001, P < 0.0001, and P = 0.053; respectively), and double interspiking groups (P = 0.015, P = 0.009, and P = 0.008; respectively). The age and spiking ratio and age- and spiking-type interaction were not affected body feather score and vent score in single and double interspiking group (P > 0.05). The age, spiking ratio, and type were not affected blood heterophil, lymphocyte, and heterophil/lymphocyte (H/L) ratio in the single and double interspiking group (P > 0.05). In conclusion, spiking program can be applied to the flocks which have poor management conditions and/or have less fertility traits.Publication Spiking applications in broiler breeders and its effect on reproduction performance(Taylor, 2023-05-15) Sabah, Saliha; Dikmen, Bilgehan Yılmaz; Sabah, Saliha; YILMAZ DİKMEN, BİLGEHAN; Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi/Ziraat Fakültesi/Zootekni Bölümü; 0000-0003-4577-8054; 0000-0002-4397-5428; G-3725-2017; FWU-6336-2022According to current reports, broiler breeder eggs have a high fertility rate at the beginning of production, but a quick decline occurs in fertility after 40 to 45 weeks. In actuality, female broiler breeders require more frequent breeding to maintain high fertility, whereas males of the same age are less interested in breeding and the hatchability of eggs starts to decline with age. Due to these circumstances, proper care and management are essential for aged breeder flocks to maintain good reproductive performance and production. In order to address the issue of declining fertility in older flocks, spiking application has just begun to be included in the maintenance and management methods of many breeders worldwide. To encourage the flock's mating activity, this strategy entails replacing some of the existing male breeders with young or older breeders. With young or old roosters, the spiking exchange can be used in single or double forms. The objective of this review is to provide in-depth information about spiking, which has a variety of forms, and to compile the results of relevant research.
