Abstract

In this study, the pathologic lesions formed in kind neys, heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and their relationships bet ween urolithiasis were investigated. A sum of 154 chicken We m UT were SUM with suspected clinical symptoms were collected from 10 diffe rent locations around Bursa, Turkey. They were from different ages and breeds of laying hens. Of these 134 were diagnosed as Gout, and the remaining 20 animals were suffering from Gumboro disease. The average mortality was figured out as 5.6 percent which was increasing at the beginning and later stages of la ying periods, and was higher in Studler and Hy-Line breeds. The clinical signs included roughening of feathers, lethargic and sleepy standing with cachectic and emaciated appearance, dehydration and they were so weak that caused to sudden falling on their tails or on sternal bone, and deaths. At necropsy, most striking was the chalky white colored uric acid precipitations on the serosal surfaces of internal organs, and their cut surfaces.Histologic examinations of these urate granulomas revealed that they were made of mainly heterophil leukocytes and mononucleated cells. Foreign body giant cells were present in only renal granulomas, and were arranged around the urate crystals to try to engulf these irritating -3 foreign bodies. These uric acid precipitations were seen the kidneys and serosal surfaces of all internal organs in all cases (%100) in the hearts of 79.8 percent of cases, and in liver, lungs, spleen and joints 73.1, 71.6, 63.4 and 58.2 percent respectively. Normal plasma level of uric acid is 11 ICT ea of 7.46-10:34 mg/100 ml which was increased up by a factor of 3-7 to reach up to 23.25-75.89 mg/100 ml. Uroliths were present in all cases in different segments of ureters, and that their shape and the numbers were varied from case to case. Their size were usually depending on the diameter of ureter and the color was usually dirty white. The shape was mostly sylindric, the surface was rough and spongy, as the consistency was brittle. Chemical analyses were proved their composition as the urat salt of Calcium angl /or Ammonium. These results proved that, gout is the results of improper care, and imbalanced feeding of chicken at different ages and breeds, and it is related with the urolithiasis that CU accurs in those organs that have comparably slower blood flow to let enough time for the precipitation of uric acid crystals.
