Abstract

In this study it is aimed to determine the effects of synthetic antioxidant (Buthylhidroxytoluen-BHT, Buthylhidroxianisole-BHA, Ethoxyquine and sitric acid) and herbal extract (dried oregano, oregano oil, anise oil, garlic oil and fennel oil) supplementation in diets % 3 level added flaxseed oil and soy oil and without any oil added groups on egg yolk fatty acid composition, lipid oxidation (to Malondialdehyde-MDA level) and egg production parameters. 34 weeks of 315 Lohmann white laying hens were used in the study. Laying hens used in assay were separated into 9 groups and 7 replicate groups were formed for each group. Each replicate group was formed as 5 hens. Assay was carried on for 16 weeks. Egg productivity, egg weight and feed convertion ratio were not affected by the oil and the antioxidant types used in the experiment (p>0.05). MDA levels in egg yolks were rised in all groups with storage (p<0.05). Also, MDA levels of flaxseed oil groups’ egg yolks were increased in 1st, 14th and especially 56th days of egg storage (p<0.05). However, synthetic antioxidants and herbal extracts which were added to the diet with flaxseed oil slowed down the increasing level of MDA concentration of egg yolks in 1st, 28th, 42nd and 56th days of egg storage (p<0.05). In feed, herbal extracts can be used to slow down the oxidation due to the storage in egg yolk lipids as much as synthetic antioxidants.
