A laboratory scale investigation of manning roughness coefficient in open channel bed with different grain size and slopes

Efforts for getting the maximum efficiency from the existing water resources and to implement new projects are getting more attention these days. Determining the flow resistance for the project design and control process in open channels requires sophisticated applications. It is usually essential to be aware of the characteristics of the channel and flow to determine the hydraulic roughness, which represents the resistance of the flow. Hence, empirical calculation and evaluation of the hydraulic roughness will support future design and planning processes. In this study, four different particle sizes (d50= 28mm, 17.5mm, 4mm, and 1.75mm) that were fixed on blocks were used. These particle sizes were then used as the bed covering together with, three different horizontal bed slopes, and flow rates in the experiments to determine the associated Manning roughness, n. During the experiment, Froude number values were examined and it was determined that, in 32 experiments the flow regime can be considered as subcritical. Alternatively, the Lotter method was used to confirm the roughness values obtained by the Manning equation. It was concluded that the roughness values obtained by the selected methods have good concordance with each other.

Dyeing of silk in Edirne red color with madder

Silk is a natural filament obtained from the Bombyx mori species of silkworm, with a fiber length of up to 3000 meters. During the Ottoman era in Edirne, sericulture and silk trade were important activities. To this end, silk factories, trade centers, and silk weaving schools were established, creating an important sourceof income for the people of Edirne. Edirne Red is a natural dye obtained from the Rubia Tinctorum L. plant and is part of the Ottoman Empire'sheritage. This dye is resistant to sunlight and washing. It has been used in Turkish carpets, as well as in silk andcotton fabrics.The aim of this study is to bring together the importance of Edirne Red and silk in Edirne's history. For this purpose, 100% silk fabrics were dyed using madder (Rubia Tinctorum L.) grown within the borders of Edirne province. The effects of dye ratios and auxiliary chemicals used on color and colorfastness were examinedduring the dyeing process. The color values of the fabrics were measured numerically in the CIEL*a*b* colorspace, and the washing and light fastness values of the dyed fabrics were also measured. Additionally, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analyses were performed on both the used madder and the dyedfabric. Based on the obtained data, the closest Edirne Red color was achieved by pre-mordanting fabric before dyeingand using ethanol as the dye solvent. Madder dye, successfully applied to silk fabrics under different conditions, has shown good results in terms of color yield and fastness properties.

Development of seamed compression socks and comparison with class i socks using existing mathematical models

Compression therapy is an important method for treating venous diseases such as venous edema and venous hypertension. Regular compression therapy's main objective is to diminish leg swelling by controllingblood flow and avoiding the recurrence of reversible blood flow. Compression socks are often recommende das therapeutic garments. In this study, a seamed compression sock was developed using fabric with an interlockknit structure. Three other sock samples were produced by using circular knitting MERZ CC4 model machinefor comparison. The results demonstrate that the developed sock meets all the requirements of compression class I. Statistical analysis reveals that fabric parameters, particularly fabric weight, effectively explain compression pressure intensity according to the values of coefficient of determination, coefficient of correlation(r), and means sum of square errors (MSE). In this work, Laplace's Law and a few preexisting mathematicalmodels were used to calculate the compression pressure of both standard compression socks and socks withseams, with results that were essentially similar. The points of data are tightly clustered around line of regression, showing that there is little variation in the compression pressure for socks with seams.

İnvestigating the effect of feature selection methods on the success of overall equipment effectiveness prediction

Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) describes production efficiency by combining availability, performance, and quality and is used to evaluate production equipment’s performance. This research’s aim is to investigate the potential of the feature selection techniques and the multiple linear regression method, which is one of the machine learning techniques, in successfully predicting the OEE of the corrugated department of a box factory. In the study, six different planned downtimes and information on seventeen different previously known concepts related to activities to be performed are used as input features. Moreover, backward elimination, forward selection, stepwise selection, correlation-based feature selection (CFS), genetic algorithm, random forest, extra trees, ridge regression, lasso regression, and elastic net feature selection methods are proposed to find the most distinctive feature subset in the dataset. As a result of the analyses performed on the data set consisting of 23 features, 1 output and 1204 working days of information, the elastic net - multiple linear regression model, which selects 19 attributes, gave the best average R2 value compared to other models developed. Occam's razor principle is taken into account since there is not a great difference between the average R2 values obtained. Among the models developed according to the principle, the stepwise selection - multiple linear regression model yielded the best R2 value among those that selected the fewest features.

Ergonomik riskler içeren depo raf atama problemi için karışık tamsayılı doğrusal programlama modeli: Bir uygulama

Bu çalışmada, ekmek fırınları ve fırın ekipmanları üreten bir firmada depo raf atama problemi ele alınmıştır. Mevcut sistemin analizi sonucunda, malzeme ambarındaki işlemlerin yoğun yük kaldırma/indirme ve taşıma işlerinden dolayı ergonomik riskler içerdiği gözlenmiştir. Problemin çözümü için, öncelikle bileşen sınıflandırması amacıyla Analitik Hiyerarşi Süreci (AHS) ve çok kriterli ABC analizi yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Daha sonra depodaki farklı kapasiteli raflara farklı tiplerdeki bileşenleri atayan bir iki amaçlı karışık tam sayılı doğrusal programlama modeli geliştirilmiştir. Öncelikli amaç işçilik maliyetini, ikincil amaç ise çalışanın üzerindeki ergonomik yükü azaltacak şekilde metabolik hızını enküçüklemektedir. Çalışanın sorumlu olduğu temel malzeme talebi karşılama çevrimi dört iş öğesine bölünmüş ve bunların enerji maliyeti literatürdeki mevcut denklemler kullanılarak tanımlanmıştır. Bu denklemler, maliyet en küçüklemesi amacına ek olarak matematiksel modele eklenmiştir. Önerilen modelin çözümlenmesi sonucunda çalışanın metabolik hızı ve dolayısıyla üzerindeki ergonomik riski azaltılabilirken, aynı anda çalışan verimliliğinin de artırılabileceği gösterilmiştir. Ayrıca, geliştirilen matematiksel modeli kullanarak parametre ara yüzleri ile raflara atanacak bileşenlerin belirlenebileceği ve bir depo tasarımının yapılabileceği bir yazılım geliştirilmiş ve çalışma kapsamında sunulmuştur.
